The External Turn Signal fiberoptic light

So the cover is busted to this light which I believe is the turn signal light run by a fiber optic cable, very high tech 70's stuff. Any body know if it can be replaced- just buy a cover or the whole "original" or a similar replacement?

Yes, it can be replaced, usually with an aluminum part, available from most Airstream dealers.

I got one from Inland RV a couple of weeks ago. About $15. You could also probably make one yourself.

Metal and plastic covers are available.

The rest of the optic system, has not been available and is not likely to be repairable, without ripping out the walls, as it cannot be spliced.

Sometimes, what happens is that the red plastic inserts cloud with age. You can pop them out and use a very light grit sandpaper to make them new again. It worked for us.

The stainless steel cover is definitely the way to go. I got mine, when they were first made....I wish I could remember which member made them, but it was first-rate work.

And They Are Done....
Here is a photo of the finished product. Asked the shop to keep the CAD program for these in case there is ever more demand. Will send everyone a PM that wanted one.

Fiber Optic Cover

So looking at this pic it looks like part of the old plastic from the original is still attached. Dang, just placed an order from ODM a few days ago Am I missing the red plastic inserts? That would face towards the front I take it?

The red plastic lenses are in the black block. They face forward so you can see them in you rear view mirror.
