In the future, I would like to get an LED tail light assembly.

For what it's worth, Toyota went from LED's to a cheaper bulb (probably halogen) in its tail lights in certain vehicles. With LED's having come down so much in price, that's kind of surprising.

Back in the mid-80s at one of the original Homecomings the president of the day (Letourneau [spelling?]) was new to the RV business but understood customer oriented management. At a talk session (where he really seemed to be interested in the users views) he said he quickly learned why quality was so poor and did the following thing to bring about change.

1) communication within the factory was very poor, so every week he invited ten people, chosen by lot, to spend a morning having coffee with him and talking trailers.

2) almost no-one in the work-force had ever spent a night in an RV, let alone an AS, so he set up two rigs for employees to take on holidays for two weeks. On their return they were asked to report on how things could be made better.

3) he eliminated the quality control unit and every employee was equally responsible for turning out a good product.

4) he took advantage of every opportunity to talk with, and listen to, the users.

As result he was able to boost the quality of the stuff coming out of the factory and implement changes that the users wanted.

Unfortunately he met with a tragic accident. In the years since we have sees quality go down and sometimes even up a little bit. Maybe the current business ethos does not support that kind of thinking. But for $100K there is no excuse for cut corners and shoddy workmanship.

Progress - well the wretched useless tank sensors have been ditched in favor of a better model (only took them ten years but lets give them all a hearty round of applause - of course "applause" and "clap" are synonyms, aren't they?)

It's hard to be humble when sales are way way up... and their doesn't seem to be a hard man in the lot of them (of course it was a double entendre, look who is writing the post!)

And they are doing at least a half vast attempt to seal around the rear trim which they didn't believe was necessary in the first decade of the 21st century.

So progress like global warming is real even if it's almost impossible to really believe that the dance is ending and the piper does expect to be paid. We few, we happy few - are gonna git outta Dodge in our silver chuckwagons and hide in the hills until the carnage reaches it's "self limiting" final bloodbath.

Will the new language be Klingon or Vulcan?

Live long and prosper, Paula

For what it's worth I spent small fortune having to upgrade both my exterior and interior lights on my '00 XC diesel...half my lights were made to run off the battery (for traveling) and half off shore power, inverter, or genset...I found some pretty good bulk deals on Amazon. The prices have dropped substantially since I did my reno...ugh.

It’s probably Thor, Inc., demanding "more revenue & lower cost from our, uh... “holdings”, for the, uh, CE- I mean... “shareholders...”.

“...Anyway, the “Brand” carries a lot of weight...”.

(sure hope those brainiacs move on)

Nothing against those who have post-Thor Industries units, but the new-to-us unit we bought was purchased for among other reasons because it was pre-Thor. Not to say that it's QC is a whole lot better(seems good so far) but it wouldn't take much to surpass Thor. We've owned Thor products before(not AS) and have had issues with them and their dealers. Always wanted an AS but "Thor" was a bit of a turn-off. Bought ours with the intent on renovating anyway, so at least if the QC is bad after we're done its our fault. We think that many executives live in their own world(been there) and its their loss if they don't enjoy the RV experience...

James and Rebecca

Thumbs up

Replaced all the interior non-florescent 5 years ago with warm white along with the step and scare with bright white, big improvement.

The plan was to do the rest of the outside when they started to burn-out, that hasn't happened yet.

Did put LED B/W pads in the b/u lights....helps to light up the campsite when it's time to leave, not to mention how bright it gets while backing at night.

Jim,

Is the 'new to us' your 89?

"Thor Industries, Inc. was founded on August 29, 1980, when Wade F. B. Thompson and Peter Busch Orthwein acquired Airstream. The name "Thor" combined the first two letters of each entrepreneur's name."

LED Conversions?

As one who converted two AS and one moho to LED's, at a total cost of about $1500 for all....to save electricity......

So, stop reading this post now......

The OP was asking the question about the folks at JC and most of us have no clue about how their thinking algorithm is functioning, if that is what one could call it.

I have found gels can change color temperature on LED's, the new LED's can be dimmed, and as the country changes to all LED light sources, we will continue to make progress in this area.

Most folks attempting to manufacture products in the USA have found cost cutting is necessary to be somewhat competitive and the result is some models of AS have minimal convenience, others some features (think electric bed or loungers) which in an RV with no generator is interesting at best.

My experience when I actually worked, was to examine folks' emotional and thinking state, and assist in their being able to make good decisions in life. While it is inappropriate for me to come to any diagnosis regarding the bean counters at Jackson Center, the task would be interesting for sure....

What were they thinking? The question of the day.....LOL

Did you put blue tape on your belt-line trim of your newer Classic to make it look like an older Excella?
