Sewer light.

Hi, my trailer has a sewer light; This light is located in-line with the drain pipe/cap. There is a push button switch, with a weather cover, that turns this sewer light on. I have never used this light and I have never had to drain my tanks in the dark, but just the same, my trailer was built with this sewer light. Point is, my sewer light stopped working [I test it once in a while] and the problem was the very cheap/crappy switch that Airstream installed on my trailer. For those of you who don't know me, I don't like having things that don't work, even if I don't use it. I went to Lowes today and bought a heavy duty weather proof toggle switch [about $8.00] and installed it. It sure works fine now and I don't think this switch will fail, for as long as I own this trailer.

Lucy's sewer light did the very same thing last year. I had to replace the switch. I never used Lucy's much, either. We often set up in the dark, but I usually use a work light. That little light isn't much.

Only thing I'd worry about would be the dreaded "accidental toggle" phenomon, caused e.g. by road debris, then running down the battery if it goes unnoticed for a few days. The original switch, living under its little rubber cover is hard to trip by accident ... the light in my under-bed storage compartment - that has a slide switch - has been subject to the "accidental slide" phenomenon. Couldn't figure out why my battery life was so short. A little piece of duct tape on the switch fixed that!

I like my sewer light and I do use it in the fall when the sun sets early. But now I have to worry: "When will it break?" "Will I be left in the dark as I hunt for the flashlight?"

Ditto to that about the switch, just by luck did I find that there was even a light in the storage area, being a new airstream owner. Good when you need it I guess. Love the "Airdreamer" though!

I'm debating if, when I replace my banana wrap, I'm even going to bother with that light again. I've never used it once. I, like Robert, like to have everything working even if I don't use it. But, if it's not there, I'll never have to fix it again!

Or you can choose among several nice ones at Walmart in the $15-$20 range. I have two, one I keep in the car, the other is hanging from the screen door of the Airstream. Both come in very handy.

They are also nice if you're working on a computer.

Hi, Brian. I don't think that little sewer light will put out much light, but in real dark areas [away from city lights] it might be bright enough to be useful. Note: they make an LED replacement bulb that might be brighter and would take a year to run your battery down.

Hi, Al. The most common number for that bulb is a 194, but there are a few different ones and I'm sure there is not much difference in candle power at that size.

Hi, AirsDream. I did think about that, accidental toggle on, and because of that I purposely aligned my switch so the on position was to the front of my trailer and the off position was to the rear of my trailer; Thinking that if I brushed up against a bush or something going foreward, it would push the switch in the off position.

Hi, Gene. The jack light is almost useless; I have turned it on a few times, but I don't think it was any help. Once again, it might seem bright in a really dark area.

Actually the sewer light is helpful. Traveling in mid-November when the sun goes down around 5 and we may stop as late as 6, it is bright enough to help in attaching the sewer hose.

I can't imagine how the jack light can illuminate anything worth seeing.

Flashlights still needed to see things anyway when we are setting up in the dark. The ones that fit on your head are cool. They remind me of miner's lights from my long ago days in the mining business. You always have to be careful to not face someone when you are talking to them because when you look at them you are shining a light in their eyes.

I have an LED flashlight that has a tripod and the head swivels, so it can be placed just about anywhere and set to light up things. 3 position switch for various amounts of light too. And, it washes the dishes.
