Seeking Advice on Properly Sealing Replacement Marker Lights

I'm replacing most of my red and amber marker lights. What is the best way to seal the new lights to the body of the trailer?

Pete

Thank you Frank.

For anyone who's interested here is a link to an Airstream List post I found thanks to Franks Post.

Just not sure who sells it.

626 is "texturized" It has a thicker body and longer cure time. It takes 24- 36 hours to skin over and a life time before it gets hard. I just ordered a fresh case from Fastenal this morning.

If they fit nicely to the curvature of the skin (1/16" or so), I prefer Parr Bond.

I cut gaskets from 1/4" thick black closed cell rubber foam ordered through Ace. Conforms to shell, no adhesive or caulk needed.

I dry fit the new lamps using #6 stainless sheetmetal screws loosely fitted. I then tape the perimeter 1/16" away with blue painters tape.

I then remove the screws, apply Tempro to the back of the lamp and then install it. I use the screws instead of rivets sometimes. The tempro will squish out and the blue tape will catch it. let it set for a bit then clean the excess with mineral spirits. Finally, remove the tape.

I also leave a small gap in the sealant at the bottom of the lamp.

It works for me...your milage may vary

I agree, good product. We first tried it a few years ago after having it recommended by Oasis RV in Tucson, long-time Airstream repair shop. There is a learning curve to apply it neatly because it is extremely sticky, but works and lasts.

I use silicone... aluminum compatible. Everyone here screams... but it is so easy to apply, so easy to clean up, and GE's new stuff is water ready in 4 hours.

I tried lots of other stuff... wasn't until a got my silcone into every tiny crack that I didn't have any more leaks... Looks really nice... smooth and shiny like aluminum!
