Think it is just your running lights? It is your tail lights too. I am with those who think its rude to have those bright lights glaring in a beautiful starry night.

One thing is certain, no matter what a person does, or does not do, someone, somewhere, is going to be offended.

There will be a few instances where it might be improper to burn my trailer lights, and in these instances I will likely abide, but it is simply ludicrous to state that burning these lights in the presence of others is always rude.

Artstream (Michael Deprada), attached a low voltage rope of blue lights under his AS so that at night when lit, it looked like it was plasma powered and ready to float off... the lighting was low and certainly not bright. Rarely offended, often attracted.

Now, if they’d just take the tin foil off their heads, it’s messin’ with my reception.

No brighter than lanterns, campfires, rope lights, flashlights, etc.

Given that it offends some and not others and apparently those that it does offend have no rights, and the lighters are for no reason that I can fathom other than to draw attention to themselves, are lighting all the adjacent campsites around them; Could someone please explain to us non lighters what benefit the lighter gains from this annoying practice?

Hi, for me, it's just at Airstream Rallies where I turn my lights on at night. [not all night] and I only go to one Rally per year.

No one "needs" an Airstream either. I am sure there are some folks who wonder what purpose those silly trailers serve and thinks that they have no place on the road.

It must be that everything is not about need.

EVERYTHING offends someone. Some people might even be offended that others are offended at their lights.

Whose offense takes precedent?

I like all the light ideas. If you build or buy one that flashes it is an added safety factor when you are stranded on the side of a dark highway. Of course the required 3 reflective triangles help too.

Hi, the light control box in post number 26 was made as a toy sort of. The one in this picture is much simpler and it was made for emergency use. Hopefully I won't need to use it, but it's there if needed. This one has one toggle switch, Off / flash all lights.

We do turn Lucy's lights on occasionally when we feel it is warranted and will not disturb any of our neighbors. We don't need to do it, but sometimes, it is just fun, which is our goal in life.

I will have to admit that Lucy's meager light display sometimes pales in comparison to some other campers as seen below.

Where do you camp that the sites are so close that you would be disturbed by a trailer's running lights, but not a lantern, rope lights, street lights, flashlights, a car's headlights?
Does a trailer with running lights on really disturb anyone? Has any poster on this thread really been disturbed? Is this any different than noise- music, loud people talking, loud vehicles, dogs barking? I turn them off at "quiet hours" or bed time.

I turn mine on sometimes at rallies, but always turn them off before turning in for the night, usually the last time I walk Ali, our dog.

Some people like them, some people don't like them. I'm really concerned about it.

It really does matter

It matters mostly where your at. Your rallies it some of these theme parks or baseball field type rally where there are many same thinking campers...those lights would be OK. But where I frequent I go for the dark skys and beauty of the deserts and mountains.
Try your lights here and see the response...Copper Breaks State Park — Texas Parks & Wildlife Department.
Those light controllers shown her are beautiful work, I have one for the occasional "wild" rally and especially for that chance I have a roadside problem where I have to leave the Airstream on the roadside and want to put up some type of safety lighting.

I turn mine on when I remember to. Never had a complaint, in fact just the opposite. Folks usually ask me how I get them to work. I always turn them off before bed time if not sooner.

Recently at a state park I was parked next to an SOB double decker. They had aircraft landing lights on all four corners. Just before I was going to go over and have a talk with them the folks on the other side asked the SOB to turn their lights off. There was bit of a heated discussion before the lights were finally turned off.

Actually, I find the scare light on the side of the Airstream much more offensive than the running lights. Like AWCHIEF, almost every time that I turn on Lucy's running lights at a campground, someone asks how it is done.

I have no real problem with it, and I agree someone having that porch lite on could be equally or more annoying, depend on where you were. What I can't understand is why people would sit in their trailer in the evening, and have their running lights on. What is the purpose? Is is safety? Do they want to see the outside in varied colors? Do they want to attract attention and thereby conversation? Would some of you post why you do it?

Hi, hey; Why does it always have to be barking dogs. Why not meowing cats. Dusty wants to know!

Hi, most of the people that I have seen, and been with, at Rallies, are out and about while there lights are on. [not sitting in their trailers] When we go in for the night, they are turned off.

I imagine it's the same reason people have chrome bumpers on their F350s: looks cool...

How would one go about getting something like this? I'm not electricity inclined, so buying one would be much safer than my very poor skill level shorting out the complete system.

Thanks

Doug
