Now this is interesting. Where have I been all this time? You folks have been turning on your running lights for years. I never heard of it till just the other day. And I've been on this forum for a dozen years and Airstreaming for 14 years. I like Brian's fuse idea...just for a little extra safety. $29.95 plus $4 shipping for a Plug-n-Light? Even Andy at Inland says to just make a simple connector.

For m.hony: The tandem bike rides in the pickup bed.

How to carry a tandem

Same way here, Jay, a 2x4 across the truck bed with a fork mount and the long bike diagonal across the bed. Works great!

My long wheel base recumbent fits snugly in the truck bed diagonally with no bracing or mounts- just put it in there and close the tailgate on it.

My bike carrier is a Yakima meant to be mounted across the top of a pickup bed. I cut it to fit within the bed and shackled it to the rear corner tie-downs. Found it at a swap meet years ago. Don't know if they still make it. The blue thing you see here is a coupler for my thru-bolt forked fat bike. The Santana sits on the other side of the bed.

I like this one, easy and noninvasive! will need to try this someday.

Think it is just your running lights? It is your tail lights too. I am with those who think its rude to have those bright lights glaring in a beautiful starry night.

One thing is certain, no matter what a person does, or does not do, someone, somewhere, is going to be offended.

There will be a few instances where it might be improper to burn my trailer lights, and in these instances I will likely abide, but it is simply ludicrous to state that burning these lights in the presence of others is always rude.

Artstream (Michael Deprada), attached a low voltage rope of blue lights under his AS so that at night when lit, it looked like it was plasma powered and ready to float off... the lighting was low and certainly not bright. Rarely offended, often attracted.

Now, if they’d just take the tin foil off their heads, it’s messin’ with my reception.

No brighter than lanterns, campfires, rope lights, flashlights, etc.

Given that it offends some and not others and apparently those that it does offend have no rights, and the lighters are for no reason that I can fathom other than to draw attention to themselves, are lighting all the adjacent campsites around them; Could someone please explain to us non lighters what benefit the lighter gains from this annoying practice?

Ken

Hi, for me, it's just at Airstream Rallies where I turn my lights on at night. [not all night] and I only go to one Rally per year.

No one "needs" an Airstream either. I am sure there are some folks who wonder what purpose those silly trailers serve and thinks that they have no place on the road.

It must be that everything is not about need.

EVERYTHING offends someone. Some people might even be offended that others are offended at their lights.

Whose offense takes precedent?

I like all the light ideas. If you build or buy one that flashes it is an added safety factor when you are stranded on the side of a dark highway. Of course the required 3 reflective triangles help too.
