I've seen numerous posts on replacing lamps and fixtures, and more numerous sites online to find LED replacement lamps (lamp=bulb). What are people's experiences with these lamps and online lamp sellers? I've used some LED products in residential projects and have found out the hard way that there is a broad range in quality, and that some can fail prematurely. So, if anyone has some good experiences with replacement bulbs or fixtures to replace the multi-lamp fixtures found in the early 60s trailers. I did find this

Hi from GA. . .there are a lot of threads on this subject if you search LED lights. I think most people like them (me included) but they are pricey. Regards, Craig

I replaced all 20 of the interior regular lamps in my 66 Tradewind with 10 LED bulbs, and I am very happy with the results. I also replaced the exterior spot light with an LED. This step is essential if you run off the batteries (boondocking) since you only use about 10% of the battery power and therefore only generate about 10% of the heat compared to normal lights. I also replaced all of the lights in my 65 Safari w/LEDs and am very happy. I also added above and below cabinet LED strip lights. All are Warm White in color.

Interesting! Over time these are the same two vendors I have settled on. I used Super Bright for automotive replacements for about 10 years (long before I had my AS) and I have used LEDs 4 RVs for all my AS replacements.

I just finished removing 10 interior fixtures in my 29'. Replaced all with warm white LED strip lights from "Superbright leds". Also installed dimmers on the circuits. On the exterior, I installed LED replacement bulbs in spotlight, door light, brake lights and back up lights. Very pleased with results.

I am working on installing a waterproof yellow LED strip light with dimmer on exterior curbside. Planning on removing small blue insert and mounting strip light in its place. Before I complete install I want to see if yellow light keeps bugs away, if it doesn't will use another color probably blue.

Yup, I too replaced all my interior lamps with LEDs - but only the under-step exterior ... did it for amp-hour conservation reasons. Tried several vendors, tried several configurations. What seems to work best for me is the Superbright LED "circuit board" style - I just put them right into the existing fixtures. I tried double-sided tape to hold them in place but that didn't work so well, so reverted to the old tried-and true method ... no, not duct tape - a tiny little dab of silastic at each corner. They work fine and draw about 1/7 of the current of teh original lamps. I think they are not quite as bright and they're a bit pricey per lumen, but they're fine for me. No failures, no regrets. I'd do it again in a second.

The main reasons for my conversion to LED strip lights was two fold, first was cost (the interior conversion was under $100), the second was the ability to adjust brightness via dimmer switches. I can't belive the price they ask for individual bulbs. I was not willing to spend that kind of money.

thanks for all the great tips! I've used the strip lighting (the rolls) in projects for clients and like the effect, but for me, it would be to glare-y for direct lighting, but it is a great idea for indirect. I had been noodling around with what to do to replace the semi-recessed rectangles in the ceiling, maybe using the strips...

Mostly, I was looking for reputable vendors through the experiences of others, and this helps. I think the RV LED guy is a forum member? Thanks again

Just finished the LED project tonight. I bought from Airstream and Superbright LED as others mentioned. I got some tower bulbs and the pcb or circuit board type. The 30 LED circuit light is brighter from superbright than the 24 LED airstream store boards. The 45 light tower is POWERFUL. It is a replacement for the 1156. I used one of them for the patio light and the wardrobe. The oven hood bulb I replaced with a 30 LED pad and it is amazing the light it puts out. Altogether it was about $300 to do the interior (including reading lights) patio and door light outside of my Safari.

I'm looking for lamps to replace the ones in the original wall mounted bullet fixtures, 1141 lamps now to replace with some kind of small spot. The lighting they give is excellent, directable and with no glare, and I like indirect lighting. I found some great fixtures for the ceiling fixtures, but a hundred bucks a pop.

I have ceiling fixtures that take 1141/1156 bulbs but if you need a bulb shape the 45 LED tower bulb from superbright is powerful and comes close to matching the 1156 for light. It is also available in warm white. It is not cheap though. About $25.

Thanks Rodster... If it lasts, 25 bucks isn't so bad. The old auto lamps are a couple of bucks, but if the LEDs last, it's also about energy saved and the battery hassle, I'd say.

I bought two different tower bulbs. One is much dimmer than the other. That 45 LED is great. I am not familiar with your bullet lights but I am finding out that the LED while a savings in energy is dimmer overall. The 45 is rated at 220 lumens I believe.

I just replaced some of my 1141 bulbs with a 48 led warm white "board" from V-leds.com. If you purchase in bulk, then they give a volume discount. I bought 20 and the total came to just over $200, about $10 each, including a 15% discount and shipping. I have bought from V-leds in the past for my F-250 and am very satisfied with their products and support. These boards fit much better in the square ceiling lights than a bulb style led; also distribute the light much better.

After I did the same as you with replacing all 1141's on the inside with the warm white which was a total of 20 I started on the outside with all leds an now complete looks great at night.

Yes, I am now in the process of trying to find a crystal or semi-clear lens for the ceiling fixture. The white lens blocks about 1/2 of the lumens from LEDs. I did find another difference with the LED lights is the voltage range specs. The wider the better on the range. The superbright LEDs range from 11 to 30V I believe. I am not sure about the Airstream Store ones that I bought. I can say that the one 45 LED tower bulb is amazing from Superbright. I put it outside in the patio light. That one is pricy though. I got another one that I put in the wardrobe but I am thinking about the bathroom since it is darker. The airstream PCB LEDs are not as bright.

The first light bulb has gone out on my 2008 Safari. It's one in the ceiling. These lights are the original halogen bulbs. I would like to start replacing the ones that burn out with the newer LED lights. From what I am reading on the threads, I want the warm white ones. I'm sure someone has answered this question before but I can't find it. Has anyone replaced just one or two halogen lights at a time with the LED ones? Is there a BIG difference in the lighting? I can't afford to do them all at once and would like to replace them as they burn out but not if there is a noticeable difference in the way they look. Thanks for any "light" you can shed on this subject.
