HALOGEN BULBS in the "hockey puck"-style light fixtures (in our new-to-us 2002 Airstream 28' Classic) ---
---throw off much more HEAT than some other types of bulbs, and
---use MOREPOWER than some other types of bulbs.
I read about LEDsand their LOWER POWER USAGE, especially important when boondocking.
Various RV and marine websites sell replacement LED FIXTURES, but I was looking for---
---a less expensive alternative, and
---an idiot-proof (me) installation.
On learning Lew ( lew at gorge dot net , more on him below) on this forum
is a distributor for LEDs, I asked him if he c/replace those swelter-inducing-battery-hog halogens. By email, he helped and had them shipped.
Piece of cake to replace the 4 bulbs over the recliners and beds. I see more LEDs will be in our future.
Cost ~ $20 each, with S+H. more expensive than replacing the halogens, but way less expensive and easier than new fixtures.
Enjoying cooler reading these days.

We worked with Lew as well...we replaced those overhead hot, too-bright halogens in the front half of the Bambi with cool white LEDs as well as 2 spot reading lights...we chose cool vs warm...a personal choice. We really are liking them, and will soon replace the other half of the Bambi's lights with them... PM Lew here on the forums ("lewster") and he'll set you up...they are easy to install and are direct replacements. Lew's the man!

Al66pine, we are way ahead of you but glad that you are with us now! I too have retrofitted almost every light in my coach with LEWSTER's Imtra lights, and I couldn't be happier with the result.
