Rear Marker Lights and rear window awning

Got my Zipdee roadside awning installed yesterday. Now for the rear.

As stated in another recent post I only have about 2 1/2" between the top of the rear window frame and the bottom of the rear marker lights. I know I can still do it and not interfere with the window opening by mounting the awning rail upside down, but I think this may look too crowded. I also know I can raise the marker lights for more room. But I have a couple of other ideas I would like to get some feedback on:

1.Eliminate the rear marker lights altogether. Are they legally required? Granted the lights are a safety concern.

2. Move the marker lights to the alumaguard. I would need to figure a way to protect the wiring

3. Some kind of red LED strip instead of the marker lights. If some kind of marker lights are requireed would this be a legal substitute?

Thoughts? Suggestions?

Did not move the clearance lights.
Riveted awning rail upside down for 0 clearance between awning and lights.

FYI I had a newer rear awning with the newer aluminum satin finish. I wanted to use the older chrome finish alumaguard. To do this I had to eliminate the flexguard and attach the chrome alumaguard directly to the awning rail with out the flexguard in the middle. The flexguard will not match up with the older chrome alumaguard.
