r+r 120v plugs

I would like to replace the 120v recepticles in my 85 Soverign, inorder to use better looking faceplates. When I took out the first one, I did not see what I was expecting. Can regular receps be used, or much I stay with the plastic ones? LJH

regular ones are usually too deep especially if used on an exterior wall.
