Well, this has me thinking. We have the same problem. Pot metal is actually a metal you can work with yourself. They sell kits for hobbyists...Model tin soldiers and model railroaders use it. I may have to investigate making a mold..........

Wow, John, if you can make them you may have a market! I would buy a couple! I have not tried to glue mine yet but at some point one will break.

Well for what it's worth I have repaired two of the lights in the GT using to different methods. I did these a number of years ago so I'll give you what I remember. If you think it will work for you I'll go out and take a closer look to see in detail how I did them.
One way was a thin piece of threaded rod with a hook bent into the end, passed through the post and hooked on the inside of the lamp. The other end was attached to a bridge over the wall side of the post and snugged up. Isn't very flexable.
The other fix used piano wire in a similar fashion but required drilling of the ball. This made it much more flexable.
I think I've got another one coming loose. Maybe time to put together a post on rigging these things back together.

Hope this helps,
Tom

Hi John (and others),

I make molds all the time! I am also (in my other life) a custom goldsmith and have been making jewelry for 32 years (Custom Jewelry, Island Metalworks Custom Goldsmiths). I use a non-destructive silicone molding compound that will make a PERFECT reproduction of ANY material, (except liquids, of course!) even a leaf from a plant and it will have every detail present. I've done a lot of strange things like motorcycle parts, lamp parts and even out of production marine hardware, as well as jewelry.

If you need a new part made, I can also cast them in pot metal right into this mold, or cast them in bronze, sterling silver, gold or platinum, depending on your budget .

Anyway, let me know if you need this type of service!
