New 12 V LED interior light fixture conundrum….
I just purchased four12V LED dome lights to replace the cheap looking white plastic 12v bulb dome lights in my 2005 Safari 25.I removed the first original dome, and tested the new one before I installed it. It would not come on. I made sure the switch was on, it would not work. I reversed the wires, and it would not work. I tested it on a loose 12 V battery, and it worked fine. I reconnected the wires to the original fixture, and it worked. This tells me that the new dome if fine, and the wiring is ok, since the original fixture would work as well. I unhooked from shore power, flipped the trailer switch to “use”, and repeated the sequence with same results: original fixture works fine, new one will not.So I tried another one of the new lights, with the same results. All fixtures have their own switches.
I am perplexed- this should be a very simple project, as there are only two wires and a switch to deal with. I have not checked the voltage on the dome light wires, but will this weekend. But this should not be an issue though since the original 12v fixture works fine.
The new domes are of high quality purchased from a reliable vendor. Is there something different about LED 12v lights vs. 12v bulb lights I am missing? I know they pull fewer amps, which should be a plus.
Any suggestions?
