My step light bulb burned out and I'd like to replace it with LED. Anyone done this?
Thanks, Pete

I think
Just checked it is an 1156 bright white.
Give Dan a call to make sure.

You should be able to get LED replacements for most standard-sized 12v incandescent bulbs.
Try to get the ones that are actual bulbs, like this:
https://www.amazon.com/Street-1156-L.../dp/B001JT1CTE
Avoid the LEDs that look like flat yellowing panels arranged around a central stem. In my experience, those glow-panel LEDs are way too dim for practical use.

I'd recommend bulbs that look more like Robert Cross's example than this one. Individual LEDs are often quite directional. Most RV fixtures with incandescent bulbs mount the bulbs sideways. With end-mounted LEDs like the one shown here, a lot of light can get lost in the fixture.
I replaced all the interior bulbs in my Scamp with replacements that had LEDs around the circumference like RC showed, and I'm pleased with the result. (I got mine from LED4RV.com).

Yup, like Robert's. Don't really want a super bright one there. Just enough for a night light that glows the steps.

Thanks Bob, I'll give him a call. I should have just called him to begin with. [emoji4]

Yes, as mentioned above I used a 1156 bright white LED. You can get 1156 warm white too if you are looking for something a little softer.
I replaced all my interior 1156 bulbs with warm white LED. I think it cost me about $20 from Amazon.

I purchased these about 2 years ago. They are still going strong. Out of the 20 bulb package, the one I used most for a reading lamp became discolored and blinked occasionally so I tossed it.

Question, my step light rusted out the socket. The bulb was a 1003 . Cannot find the replacement light ass like your picture. That's what I have.
Any suggestions?

The light assembly is still in use today, so it should be available from any Airstream Dealer. (original part #510732 - Utility Light)
If the outside portion of the fixture is still good, a replacement for the bulb socket itself can be purchase at an automotive parts store.
