Melted exterior floodlight cover

I seem to have melted my plastic floodlight cover on my 1979 31' International. Does anyone know where I could buy a new one, maybe even a glass one?

Melted Light

Yea, I had to replace mine too.
Tomorrow I'll get you a phone number.
They are a standard semi-tractor trailer back up lens.

To prevent this recurring, the usual advice is to replace the bulb with a 1141 type:

Of course, you might already have one fitted............

I went to a You-pull-it style automotive salvage yard (junk yard) with a friend for a part for his old Chevy truck. There was a bunch of old large trucks there - I got 4 lenses - 3 clear and 1 amber for $5. Not new but fully functional. My old Caravel has 2 scare lights and these are for her. Just a thought in case you want to do the same.

I noticed when I was out by ours that ours has melted also and we never use it. I guess it just really got hot this summer!

These lenses can be purchased through NAPA also. I purchased 3 for my 69 as they are the same as the BU lights. Part # 99176C. Instead of having signal stat on them they have TruckLite on them.

I replaced my entire fixture with one from Vintage Trailer Supply as noted in a previous post. I rarely use this scare light but when I converted over to a 36 bulb LED board, I pulled out an 1156 bulb. No wonder these plastic lenses warp or melt.

Try a frosted bulb? Then the lens won't melt.....maybe.

Outside Flood Light

You are using the wrong light bulb. Mine melted also, I dont remember what the number is but it is not an 1156. I see if I can round up the number or as Andy of Inland RV.

In my 69 it says use a 1034 for the flood light. This bulb will not work in mine. This bulb has 2 contacts and the lock tabs are not even accross. It has a 32 candle power rating, as does a 1156. The 1141 bulbs that are used on the interior light fixtures has a rating of 21 candle power, it is what I have in mine and is pretty bright. You can use frosted or not in the 1141 style.

You need to use the lower wattage bulb in both instances. The earlier trailers used double filament bulbs, the newer ones single. The higher-watt bulbs will soften and distort the plastic lens from the increased heat.

You might also consider a #93 bulb which uses less current than the 1141 bulb. It is 1.04 amps vs. 1.44 for the 1141.

The 71/72 manuals we have show a 90 for the step light and a 1141 for the flood light.
