Marker or Clearance Lights for Non-Purists

I realize regulations will vary state-to-state, but does anybody know if marker lights need to be red/amber if they are not turned on?

Thought these would be awesome with red/amber bulbs, or with that colored plastic tail light lens repair material, glued inside with clear caulk adhesive.

But during the day they would not be colored. Would they still be "legal"?

Those are pretty cool! I don't think it matters in the daylight. What would you use in them....red LEDS?

Hello Aktundra.
If they are not on it doesn't matter until you get pulled over.
Now if you get pulled over every single light must be able to work. The brightness doesn't matter but it needs to be on.
DOT safety rules & regulations are very simple and clear.
I hope that this helps.
