Upgrading marker lights to LED. Anyone have experience with Grote or Truck Lite products?

I replaced all 12 marker lights on my 79 with Trux brand marker lights. They are identical in size and appearence to the original lights. Each light has 16 LEDs in it. They are available at Chrome Depot Inc. in Mantua, Ohio and retail for $7.50 each. I got mine for free (best part) from my neighbor who was going to install them on his Peterbilt but got a new one before he used the lights. Part numbers are Amber TLED-BA Red TLED-BR. I have had them on for 2 years now with no problems and they are super bright.

Hi Kevin, I went with these Amazon.com: Peterson V180A Piranha Amber LED Oval Clearance/Side Marker Light with Reflex: Automotive on my 67. They used the same holes and have a lower profile them the original marker lights. I'm pleased with them so far.

If you just want to go with L.E.D.'s, you can buy replacement bulbs that plug into the existing marker light socket. That way you can keep the original vintage marker light and lens. I did that with my interior fixtures, which used 1141 automotive lamps. Greatly inproved the electrical consumption.
The L.E.D. bulbs are a little pricey, but they last forever. It can be a lot easier than removing and rewiring new fixtures. L.E.D's are still not as bright as incandescent, and they're more directional, but they look pretty cool.
Be aware: Some of the cheaper L.E.D. marker lights don't wire up the same (they have 2 wires running out the back and don't use the case as the ground connection. It's usually epoxy encased, too.), which means you may have to splice behind the fixture, and caulk the edges. I ran into that a few years back with some "cheap" lights I got off EBAY. I had to drill 5/8" holes, crimp-splice, and tuck the wires inside the wall of the camper, and then caulk the fixture. I wouldn't do that to an AS.
If you have to replace the marker lights, then Grote is a better quality. A little more expensive, but well worth the extra $$$.
Just my 2c.

R & R the lights

If these are the original marker lights on your '76, I'd definitely replace 'em unless it's been in a barn all this time :-). . the sun eventually eats the plastic on the lights. When I started removing ours to replace them with LEDs, the plastic was completely shot on several of the lights, bulbs fell out, etc.

Replace 'em; they're less than $10/apiece. I soldered & used heat shrink on the +12V connections; the ground goes via the screws. I used stainless steel screws w/ electrical No-Ox compound to prevent corrosion, and sealed the top part of the back of the light w/ Vulkem; the bottom portion is left clear so that any water that gets behind the light has a place to drain.,

For the Bullseyes that was on so many years of Airstream units (same size and shape), the closest I have found is model number LED508Y and it also comes in red which is LED508R.
