Low watt interior light bulbs

I have a 2008 Safari Sport 22' and the interior light bulbs are a bit bright (and hot)

Does anyone know where I might find bulbs with the bayonet mount (I forget the number) that are dimmer and cooler?

Kindest thanks and Happy Holidays- Carl in Georgia

I have some bulbs that are half the wattage as the original ones - they put out less light, but to my eyes they don't lose half of the brightness. I'll dig out one of the spare ones and get the number to you tomorrow, and also see if I can find the on line store I ordered them from.

I do a lot of dry camping, and the lower wattage bulbs are a big plus for that, since they use a lot less power and the battery can go longer.

Carl,
Consider an upgrade (if you will) to fluorescents, they provide much more light and run cooler. I use and recommend the ThinLine Lights they come in a variety of styles and sizes. AFAIK none are plug and play, they will require you to swap out fixtures, but it is well worth it in my book.

I have a 2008 Safari SE that has light fixtures below the upper storage cabinets that look similar to those used in the Safari Sport. The bulbs in my are an 1141 incandescents, they have the same base as an 1156 bulb. I recently replaced four of the incandescents bulbs with LED's. I used them on a three week dry camping trip and was very pleased with their performance. They produce a useful amount of light at a fraction of the wattage and no noticeable heat. I have just bought two more LED's but have not had the opportunity to use them yet. The only downside I have found is they are expensive. Links to the types I am trying are listed below:

chhmiami, if you are referring to the round flush mount halogens that are also installed in the Internationals, they are 10 watt bi-pin G4 base
( Amazon.com: 10 Watt Halogen Light Bulb / Bi-Pin G4 Base / 12 Volt / 10 Watt JC Type Light Bulb: Kitchen & Dining )
and are available in 5 watt models. I am trying some LED bulbs, ~1.2 watts, in our reading lights and dinette lights but they are definitely dimmer and as another poster noted expensive. I may try the 5 watt halogens but there are eight in the galley/living area so it is expensive to replace even with halogens, ~$40.

Unfortunately changing to the Thinline florescence lights doesn't fit the character of interior nor is there any way to remove the halogens that looks acceptable to us.

This is the bulb I'm trying to replace

It's the 1141 bayonet mount 12.6 volt (interior light) above my sink, in closet, roof...that I'm trying to replace with a lower wattage or LED model and I need a source for them, THANKS Getlemen!

This is a solution for the heat factor. My interior has 14 bulbs(two to a fixture) I will post a photo soon. I was hoping not to spend $280 plus shipping for light bulbs and possibly have then even brighter. If I could find a 5 watt traditional 1141 bulb that would reduce heat, brightness and power usage it would be perfect. Thanks to reddogfox for the led link!

Since the SS has dual switchable fixtures I replaced one side of each one with Superbright LED's. When we boondock they give us a lot more battery charge life and run cool. They were installed more than a year ago and we have had no issues with them.

Thanks Ahab! That sounds like a plausible solution. I guess very low wattage incandescent #1141 bayonet mounts are unavailable. I will follow your advice and go with the LED's!

Good morning Carl, we installed in dimmer in our Safari for the three double overheads. This has accomplisged a few things with only one modifaction, keeps the power usage down when boondocking and set a romantic mood.

Tip: another handy use for the 1003 is less heat=fewer melted lenses. Happy New Year everyone! VK

Rick,
Does it actually reduce the draw or is it just dimming the lights? Reason I ask is that most dimmers that I have used still draw the full current just reduce the amount of voltage going to the light and give it off as heat. (at least I think that is how they work)

Question Lights too bright in 22 ft. Sport

Read about replacing them with LEDs, but no one mentioned wattage for LEDs or where to buy them. Also, someone mentioned 1003 regular bayonnet mount bulbs. Do you know where to get them? On our first trip - in Wyoming heading to Montana and it is too bright! Also anyone know where to get a battery operated little lamp that uses a 12 volt battery as a base - used to have one in an old camper - nice soft light when dry camping! Thanks.

The 1141 is the low wattage version. 1156 and 1141 bulbs use the same base but an 1156 is 26 watts with less resistance so it burns brighter and hotter. The 1141 bulb is 18.4 watts. However the 1003 is only 12.4 watts but will be considerably dimmer than the 1141.Any auto parts store should keep it in stock for about $2.00 each.

Typically less than 3 watts. Google LED for RV's.

Bright interior lights solution

Put 9.3 watt long life #97 bulbs in one side of each ceiling fixture. Much better. It is 13.5 volts, or so it says, but works fine. Got it at a auto supply store.

Hi there! I upgraded most of my interior lighting to LED with one exception. I left one 1203 automotive bulb in one of the bath fixtures. The base is the same as a 1003 or 1157 but it's made for a 24V system so it has a dim warm glow at 12V. I leave the bath light switch on at night and switch all the fixtures off except the one with a 1203 lamp. It provides enough light for the kids to find the bathroom in the middle of the night without disturbing anyone. I burns cool at 12V.

I use this site for LED replacements:

http://www.led4rv.com/

Here's a link to the 1203 on Amazon but I'm sure all auto parts stores have 'em.
