LED Replacement for '64 Bargman

I am looking for recommendations for an LED replacement for the original Bargman Wedding Cake brake/turn signal lights on my '64. I want the replacement to look close to the original, within reason. I am not sure which Bargman # I have, but here is a picture:

Unfortunately, that design went out many years ago.

Smooth tail lights are the order of day, today.

We have a direct replacement 7 inch LED tail light.

Part # 65601

bus lights

Hi, I found that 7" school bus lights work great. I've seen them on e-bay for as low as $36.00. They are very bright and a nice fit. You have bargman 99 Lights. LP

Those extra LEDs work great as closet lights.

Here's another conversion... (not mine)

LED tail light conversion on a 1964 Airstream Overlander

I think there were a few other well documented conversions here on the forums - just use the search function above...

I would not suggest using any form of MIX and MATCH as far as LEDS and original LENSES.

Tail lights are designed to focus the light from the original light source using the lens design to project the light in a chosen direction. Any change in the positioning of the source will reduce the effectiveness of the light.

Tampering with the optics of the fixture is not only an engineering point but most likely a legal point as well.

'64 Replacement Decided and Thanks!

Thank you to all that have written so far with replacement options. I think I like this one the best, as it allows for reuse of the original light covers.

Thanks GreatPumpkin for passing it along, but no thanks for the pile of pooh. I had to see that before I ate this morning

Here's a few more links for various styles / years. Including an alternative process used by HowieE - that wouldn't work well with the cake lights you have though.

I trust you can see the difference between post #3 and #49 in this link as to the effect the lens has on the light pattern. It looks like we both started with the same light.
http://www.airforums.com/forums/f311...hts-23544.html

As for mounting a complete LED fixture into the lens of the old cake type lights that should no be as hard as my installation. There are tail/brake fixtures that will fit in the upper section of the cake lens.

Bummer!

Looks like you are right. Well, the bus LED lights should cover the holes. But, I can't say for sure. I like to keep the original look were I can with a modern twist if I can get away with it. On the Safari the back lights were rusted out and at the time we rebuilt it economical replacements were not available. So, it got the LEDs. Looks like you have a challenge on your hands and I've learned something new about Airstreams. I'll post a picture if you like. Good luck!
