We got our LED's from Superbright and there have been no failures in several years of travel—lots of travel. I was motivated to change the main cabin ceiling lights first because they were much too bright. Later we replaced the bedroom bulbs and they were a lot brighter than the first ones. That doesn't matter because we don't use the ceiling lights in the bedroom that often.
They use far less power than incandescents and quite a bit less than halogens so if you are boondocking, you use less generator, some savings there in fuel and wear and tear.
If you buy quality LED's, they last, color temp is comparable and you can now get bright ones. The technology has advanced quickly. Soon LED's will be standard after incandescents are no longer permitted since they can be dimmed and last a very long time.

I updated all my halogens in my 04 ccd which was 17 interior lights with warm white LEDS and am very happy with the outcome. Same lumen output. Look just like the halogens. I ordered them from China at about $4.40 each. They took about a month to arrive but was worth the wait. We will see what kind of longevity they have . The puck leds have 21 leds and the others have probably more.

I'd LIKE to go to LED's.... but with the replacements costing between $12 & $16 EACH I'm conflicted (cheap). I have 12 ceiling pucks - side prongs needed and 5 spotlights, back prongs needed
Does anyone offer a volume discount if I buy them all at once?

Despite the up-front cost the benefits are terrific: extremely low energy draw, NO HEAT - so NO FIRE danger, long life despite the high vibrations in the trailer, VERY BRIGHT bulbs are now available.
Do a GOOGLE search and you'll find a number of online retailers.

LED Light Pictures
Hi Everyone,
I read through this thread and a number of others before ordering my own LEDs. There's a lot of info and I was confused as to which ones I should get. I think the biggest thing that was lacking was photos and then reading the stuff about cool white vs warm white made me a bit nervous in picking the right one.
So I decided I'd take a few pictures and put them on our blog in case that helps someone else. See here: Airstream LED Lights | WebTrippin
I ordered mine from Dan @ LED4RV.com for a couple reasons which I mentioned in the blog post but is worth repeating here. First, he's active on this forum which gave me confidence that he knew about airstreams and not just LEDs. Secondly, the site had a lot of pictures and sizes for all the products which made it easier to be confident I picked the right stuff.
The exact items I ordered were:
LED Warm White Chip C12WW (15751W-19)
Large Warm White Pad 1156p48x68WW (1156p48x68WW)
I'm going to get a cool white pad and swap it out in the shower sometime soon, since the almond color of the shower makes the warm white appear very almond/yellowish which I didn't think about before. Everything else is pretty much just as bright and the same color as the G4 bulbs I replaced. There's maybe a tiny bit less light pattern than before, but not enough to notice if you weren't looking for it.
Ciao!

I think i would stick to warm white in the bathroom unless you like blue. I ordered a cool white for my bathroom and i will not be using it . Does not look good.

Webtrippin Thanks for the pics. I am going to replace all my bulbs with LED's form Dan as well. The pics really do help, like they say a pic is worth a 1000 words.

When I tried the LEDs in my 07 International the 'warm whites' were dull yellow, and the 'bright whites' were too harsh and blue. These pictures have given me new hope of finding LEDs that are close to the original halogens in light quality. My wife will be happy, and I'll be happy to save the energy while boondocking. Thanks for the photos.

I replaced all of my bulbs from Dan at LED4RV, Dan is great to work with and I like the light and using less energy.

Cheap LED's are more likely to have poor color rendition. Various websites will give info on how to determine just what color you need. I have had no problem with Superbright color rendition and we bought them a couple of years ago. They were not as cheap as some others, but it was worth it. Prices come down steadily.
The Superbright website ( Super Bright LEDs ? LED Lights, Bulbs, and Accessories ) may have color info, but it can be found elsewhere if you look around. Last time I used their website it was hard to find things, but I did.

Yes. Cheap LEDs are cheap for a reason. Inexpensive leds on the other hand are either cheap, or they are shipped directly from the manufacturer......or both

I looked at the two sites linked to above. One has bulbs for $4 but requires buying 20. The other wants $20 a bulb. The cheap bulbs are spec'd at 60 lumens; which seems to jive with what I've found in other sources for a "standard" LED replacement. The high price spead doesn't list lumens but from what I can find the "high output" LED replacements are about 120 lumens. A standard 1156 puts out 300 lumens.

How many lumens is VERY BRIGHT, is it more that very bright. I know you can modify the fixtures to use the panel type LED assemblies but if I were going to go that route I think I'd just buy an LED lamp and replace.
In searching for info I came across a thread in a different RV forum where some folks had said they'd actually switched back because of the brightness issue.
BTW, is it 120 lumen s or is it correct to just say 120 lumen? I know that you wouldn't say 120 candlepowers and only on Top Gear do you hear how many torques an engine has

Water Closet and Shower
I replaced all the halogens with LED's in the main "living" area in my A/S. In the toilet/shower I put up a couple of the $2.95 push on/off silver 3 LED, battery powered lights. They are the bright white type but for as little time as I want to spend in there, they work fine. ...just another idea.

I bought LED's in two steps, one year apart. The ones I got in the 2nd order were brighter and less expensive than the 1st order. I'm pretty sure the 2nd order bulbs were somewhat less than $20 each.

Like Gene I've gone LED in 2 steps over the past 2 years. I've tried 4 different suppliers for 2 styles of bulbs. I like the cool white more then I do the yellowish warm white although I've only looked at 1 warm white in a showroom. From my experience the flat square surface mount 5050 LED diodes have lasted longer then the dimmer round diodes. I've had 6 of my 36 ct. round diode bulbs go out in the past 2 years but I think it's because I've purchased lower quality bulbs with no resisters built in. In that same time I haven't even had 1 diode go out on any of my flat diode bulbs. I came across Kaper 2 bulbs and Camping World which appear to be of better quality and have resisters built into each row of diodes. The price was prohibitive so I contacted the company. They are willing to direct ship at a much lower price ($10- $13 per bulb) so I had them ship me one of their bulbs. Their 15 ct. round diode bulb is brighter then my current 36 ct. bulbs but not quite as bright as my 9 ct. flat diode bulbs. I'm trying 6 of these in the 15 and 25 diode bulbs. I just ordered 5 more of these in a combination of 15 ct. and 36 ct. bulbs. They seem to be of higher quality, hopefully these will pass the test of time.

I bought directly from Airstream in October 2010 ... We are happy with the LED lights, now our lights don't put a dent in our batteries, and we've had zero problems so far.

Judy, you might call and ask for Rhonda Fisher at Airstream parts. She walked me through the color and quality of different LED options ... and she knew exactly what I needed and how many. Again, we are super pleased.
