Yes, Please - maybe I can figure it out on my own but it would be nice to see your plans if you want to release them to the public.

Very well done.

Here's what I'm using

Here's what we're using to light our trailer. The housing can on the left can be bought at most department stores / home centers / auto supply houses for under 8 bucks. The innards on the right are correctly positioned to simply slide into the housing. This runs off of the main battery in the AS. The circuits are fused inside the tailer, plus I've got a 30 A (little high I know) on the hot wire. Hope this helps. Erik

Like your design. On two occasions I've had flats on my tow vehicle and had to disconnect the Airstream so the tire could be removed from the truck. Your device would have allowed me to keep the emergency lights flashing on the Airstream when it was disconnected from the truck. What type of flasher did you install in the device?

Here's an interesting way to do it. This clip is all AS, all the way.

Hi, sorry I was unable to find my original wiring diagram and I never kept a parts list. In designing my light box I made a few changes in both parts and wiring so I would have to make a new wiring diagram to be accurrate. About half way through makeing it I saw an add for the "Light Cube" that TBRich posted a link to; [page 3 post #37] And the "Light Cube" costs less than I spent on parts. But as I have posted before, I'm very hard headed and had to do it my-way anyhow.

Oh man.

Fenghuang, thanks so much for the photos!!! That without doubt will be initiated on the "Lev Zeppelin".

I can't wait to try this.

One question for you all, and I think I know the answer to this, should you be hook up to shore power when you do this? I'm assuming you'd go through the batterys pretty quick if boondocking.

Thanks again.

Jonathan

Yes, I would be on shore power if I was to do this for fun. In an emergency - such as on the shoulder of the road - and had to leave my trailer (hopefully never) then you could run this for several hours on a good battery.

Looks cool in a campground - the flashing tends to anoy neighbors, but the constant lights are nice around your campsite for visits and such.

One use I used was at a rally when a non-Airstreaming friend was coming over for the rally pot-luck, I had mine flashing to identify my camper from the rest of the "silver looking trailers" he had to wade through. You could use it to identify your camper in a campground for emergency services to find you real quick too.

Jonathan, I'd do this pretty commonly when boondocking, but it usually only for about on hour at dusk. I've never had a big problem with battery usage, but consumption is consumption when boondocking.

This mod is KILLER with the new LED markers that Airstream is now using. The only regular light that is light now is the license plate light and even that will eventually get switched to a LED.

Thanks Clancy_boy and Westfalia,

I think using discretion is the key here. I know I be ticked if my neigbor had a mini Vegas set-up. And definitely NO flashing!!!

We are quite conservative with lighting when dry-camping rarely draining the battery lower than 75%. For example, we never use our halogen ceiling lights or reading lights. The plan is to eventually replace these with LEDs.

I tried the fuse and the flasher with the running lights only once and briefly while dry-camping to check it out since I wanted this for emergency road-side situations. We have 2 solar panels which charge up the batteries 100% by 9 AM during sunny days. We prefer to use candles or LED headlamps inside. LED Christmas lights draped around the trailer are quite impressive when hooked up to shore power.

I was just thinking about this the other day and couldn't remember the fuse size I had purchased or the slots to stick it into. Glad this thread popped up again...now I just need to go by the auto supply and get one of those flashers...uh...I mean alternating fuses.

Audio Power Amp to Modulate Running Lights

If you're really into an audio/light show it's possible to size an audio amplifier to drive the lamps. Feeding about 10-15 watts of audio output into the light circuit with the other side of the audio amp grounded to the frame should provide adequate results. Just feed your favorite audio into the power amp. I'd have to calculate the wattage necessary - depending on the lamp wattage requirements @ 12vdc. When I get back in to Baltimore I'll run a few tests with an old tube amp for a baseline.
