Here's what we're using to light our trailer. The housing can on the left can be bought at most department stores / home centers / auto supply houses for under 8 bucks. The innards on the right are correctly positioned to simply slide into the housing. This runs off of the main battery in the AS. The circuits are fused inside the tailer, plus I've got a 30 A (little high I know) on the hot wire. Hope this helps. Erik

A three way switch to control whether the lights are off, on steady, or flash mode. One switch to turn on the running lights and one switch to turn on the brake lights. The white lights were added to indicate which system was turned on and give the needed resistance to make the LEDs flash. Click on pictures for a better view.

Like your design. On two occasions I've had flats on my tow vehicle and had to disconnect the Airstream so the tire could be removed from the truck. Your device would have allowed me to keep the emergency lights flashing on the Airstream when it was disconnected from the truck. What type of flasher did you install in the device?

Hi, sorry I was unable to find my original wiring diagram and I never kept a parts list. In designing my light box I made a few changes in both parts and wiring so I would have to make a new wiring diagram to be accurrate. About half way through makeing it I saw an add for the "Light Cube" that TBRich posted a link to; [page 3 post #37] And the "Light Cube" costs less than I spent on parts. But as I have posted before, I'm very hard headed and had to do it my-way anyhow.

Yes, I would be on shore power if I was to do this for fun. In an emergency - such as on the shoulder of the road - and had to leave my trailer (hopefully never) then you could run this for several hours on a good battery.
Looks cool in a campground - the flashing tends to anoy neighbors, but the constant lights are nice around your campsite for visits and such.
One use I used was at a rally when a non-Airstreaming friend was coming over for the rally pot-luck, I had mine flashing to identify my camper from the rest of the "silver looking trailers" he had to wade through. You could use it to identify your camper in a campground for emergency services to find you real quick too.
I'm assuming you'd go through the batterys pretty quick if boondocking.
Jonathan, I'd do this pretty commonly when boondocking, but it usually only for about on hour at dusk. I've never had a big problem with battery usage, but consumption is consumption when boondocking.
This mod is KILLER with the new LED markers that Airstream is now using. The only regular light that is light now is the license plate light and even that will eventually get switched to a LED.
