I want to rewire the interior lighting.what is the best way to start

Rewire to what extent? Are you going to remove the interior skin or are you just working at the fixtures?

There is no way you can replace the wiring in the walls without removing the skin. If you are removing the skin make a drawing of the wiring that is there and replace it in kind. If you do not have all the colors to work with consider getting a booklet of wire markers from any electrical supply house and tagging both ends, at the fuse panel and at the fixtures that that wire serves, of each wire as you install them.
