Interior 1141 replaced with LED

While I have 3 solar panels totaling 265 watts and a 3000 watt generator, I still have one 115 amp hr Trojan 12 volt battery utilized when boondocking. My plans are to add another battery of the same type after 4/08. Until that time, I have been looking at different LED replacements for the 1141 bulb light fixtures I have. I looked at my light usage when connected to shore power and found myself using the fluorescent next to the front Fantastic Vent fan and the one over the sink more than other lights in the trailer. The bulbs in the one over the sink were replaced with a warm white to cut down on the harsh light. The other one remains cool white and it is bright.

I sent a number of website links that I had run across in yahoo/google searches as well as information on the forum to a friend of mine who has a 19' SOB. Likewise, he was interested in lowering consumption from his battery and had outfitted his trailer with smaller panels totaling 80 watts. He ordered 4 or 5 led bulbs for his fixtures but got the type that point straight out from the base. I was suprised to see the amount of white but subtle light inside his trailer. I thought the 1.5" LED panels with 1141 base would be a better solution for my fixtures. I ordered two of the 1156-PCB-WHP9 cool white bulbs which have 9 square looking LEDs and one of the 1156-PCB-W36 1.5" panels with 36 LEDs. The first ones were listed on http://www.superbrightleds.com/ under 1556 other bulbs as drawing 190 ma with putting out 120 lumens. The last panel draws 123 ma and puts out 57 lumens. I swear that the second panel actually puts out a little more light than the first panel. Anyway, pictured below are the panels rubber banded to the plug-in while the clear caulk dries. The frosted lens cover actually softens the cool white of the panel. I believe I will place the 1156-PCB-W36 over the entrance door since I use this light from time to time when in hunting camp and purchased a new lens while at the Airstream factory 12/17.

I am also looking at buying a Bargeman single fixture with optic lens and placing either an 1156-PCB-W24 (the 24 led board version) or another 1156-PCB-W36 in it for over the sink. I may change out the scare light with a side firing led from *LEDLight.com LED Lights, LED Lamps, LED Bulbs These measures will lower demands on the battery when off the grid and should be just what the doctor ordered during cold weather camping.

I bought two of the 36 LED units about 8 months ago and they have both been slowly fading away -- down to 18 working leds on one and 19 on the other. The light is also fairly bluish in color which is okay but different.

Probably should grumble at the folks at Superbrightleds but I can't really attest to how clean the DC power is in my 86 Sovereign -- wish I knew someone with an O'scope....

n2916s let me know what you find out. We were planning on buying a couple of those for our bathroom fixtures. Our old lenses were scorched from the wrong wattage but wanted to prolong these used lenses we found by limiting the heat they are exposed to with LED's and were eyeing those.

Mike,
Thanks for the notice. I'll keep my eye out on the 36 led board and wring it out this spring turkey season.

Dwight,
That's great! It looks like it will work for me. I wonder what the amp draw is on each fixture?

Hmmm, had them in our PU for two years without a problem and just replaced all one side of our two bulb fixtures in the 22SS. I'd contact Superbrightleds and bet they send you a new pair.

I also ran across these replacement 1141/1156 board leds that use about the same amount of current but put out more lumens. LEDLight.com LED Lights, LED Lamps, LED Bulbs

I hav e acouple of the 36 led flat units. I ended up using one of the 1141 & the led with the on switch. The light is much easier on the eyes with a single 1141 burning with the led. I seem to get better coverage. The led cuts my power use down but does not seem to kick out the light the led does. I reset my lights to 2 switches on each. 1 switch turns on a 36 led plate and an 1141. The other turns on my night light (red led). So far I am happy with the set up, but I did end up keeping a couple of 1141's...the kitchen counter/sink area and on the vanity area.

This is the reason that I did not change out the 1141 bulbs in the double fixtures in the bathroom and the one over the head of my bed. I usually only use one bulb in each area (except for the one in the shower) at a time because the extra bulb is not needed. I will occasionally read for a few minutes before going to bed but don't do this much during the hunting season because I have to get up so early. The single bulb 1141 gives out plenty of light which does not drtain my eyes. The LED use in areas to give me enough light to cook, eat dinner when not eating at the campfire, should help conserve the battery. I can't wait to see how the 36 LED unit works over my entrance door.

Like you, I like the combination of lights. It is hard to beat the incandescent light when it comes to reading or something that requires the eye's attention. The led works fine when general light is needed. The set up does save some battery juice!

In my bathroom I ended up putting two 8watt flourescents in. They are separately switched. If I were doing it over....I would probably leave the 1141 set in.

I have a single 1141+ led over the galley, over my fridge/counter I have ang 2 set (set 1 = led, set 2 = led + 1141). My vanity area has a 1141 & led. I think that is all the 1141's I saved. Everything else is either led or flourescent.

Converting from a single group 27 to twin group 24's proably will do more for extended power than some of the light changes I made. FF vents, flourescent and led lights, 2 batteries...considering the fact that I never ran the old group 27 down too far, all of this may have been an excercise in futility (I had to it though..........it was there! )

I need your opinion as a fellow hunter...would a bleached cap & antlers (small fork set or maybe slighly larger) in the AS be tacky? Of course I would still have to figure out where to hang one of the sets.

Only to those who do not hunt. Right off hand, I could not even think where I could mount smaller antlers except on the bulkhead off the refrigerator but that space will be reserved for a weather station and an LCD TV in the future. You only have so much space to move around and sharp points jabbing me in the backside or poking an eye out would not be a favorite with me.

I just received two more led boards to replace 1141 bulbs in the trailer. In post #3, I showed pictures of the two 1156-PCB-WHP9 boards I bought from SUPER BRIGHT LEDS home (under Other LED bulbs and then RV, marine) and I received two 1156 25 Ultra Bright SMT LED lights, part # 64985, today from *LEDLight.com LED Lights, LED Lamps, LED Bulbs (under Automotive). They have the same size board as the WHP9 but instead of 9 square looking LED bulbs, they have 25.

I plugged them in, clear caulked them and then rubber banded them so that they were held in place as the caulk dried. The new 25 bulb boards are a little brighter and the light is slightly whiter. Overall, I'm satisfied and will keep them in the fixtures over the couch.

What did I do with the two 1156-PCB-WHP9 boards? I put one in the hallway so that it is the first bulb to illuminate in a double light fixture. I left the other 1141 bulb in place. The second board was placed in the double light fixture over the bed. They work fine in both areas.

I'll tackle the over the door light tomorrow afternoon since I have to flex time off from work. The 1156-PCB-W36 from SUPER BRIGHT LEDS home on the first order will be a perfect fit for this application. The scare light with be the last area to deal with before April.

Used exactly the same in mine...Great addition.

Used exactly the same sites to buy the 9 and 25 led arrays.
Seems for the $ the 25 led is the better deal only $5 more. At $25.
I also used one in the outdoor light as this would typically be on for
many hours in my case and they wil not melt the plastic lens.
Double sided automotive tape wil hold them in place fast as well.

There are led lit case cooling fans for computers for under $10 which you can put in your roof vent near a light fixture and rewire it so you get soft light and constant quiet exhaust or intake with only a 2 watt draw.

Progressive Dynamic Lens

While at Camping World yesterday I ran across these replacement lens for Progressive Dynamics, Inc. for 750 / 760 series light fixtures. I have 3 of these single units and 4 of the double units in the trailer. I bought a replacement set of two frosted lens with a center clear area and replaced one of the front lens over the couch to compare it to the other white (really off-white) lens. The result of the change was a slightly brighter or whiter interior. I went ahead and replaced the other lens and am happy with the interior lighting in this area although it is a whiter light than the original 1141 bulbs. You can see the difference in the two lens in the bottom picture. I will leave the other 2 fixtures I replaced with LEDs (hallway and over bed) with the original lens. As cold as it has been the last two days, I still haven't had the desire to replace the 1141 over the front door with the 36 bulb LED.
