How's the wiring done to add 12v cig adapter?

I just bought a cigarette adapter to be able to plug in my 12V TV.

It only has two wires coming out the back...a red and a black. I know that red is hot and black is negative.

The wires in the opening where the old tv was in, has three wires. Red, black, and white. I figure I can connect red to red and black to black on the adapter.

What do I do with the two loose ends of the white wire?

PS I'm not an electrician.

Pickup a $7 voltmeter, they are sold just about anywhere, and then you can verify this kind of stuff anytime you need to do so. They are offered for sale at auto-parts stores, box stores and many other places.

Nevermind, I figured it out. I have a voltmeter that I got free at Harbor Freight. My question was how to wire the adapter.

Decided to use it and found that I have to wire the red adapter wire to both the red and white, and vice versa, the black to black and white. I guess the white is a common ground. It's always hot which is what I want.

Well, I have juice to the plug, but none to the TV. The TV says it uses 24W, and although I'm not sure the wattage on my 12V plug is, the inverter I have that plugs into it is a 200W inverter.

So I'm thinking this has to do something with the amps.

I'll figure it out later. I'm tired.

Check the fuse in the television plug.

My guess is that the TV came with it's own converter at one time either designed for a 12V lighter type plug or to plug into AC.

I found out that the larger 10ga black is hot and the larger 10ga white is common in this RV.

I accidentally touched those two and I heard a fuse pop under the dash somewhere. Now I have to look for the burned fuse before I can use the wires for the 12V cig adapter charger. I don't think that fuse is in the glove compartment for the 12V fuses.

The two small wires coming from the bottom, the red and white, are for the reading lights. Not sure why the PO wired the hot to white and red to ground, but that's what had me confused.

Plus, I didn't know that in RV's, hot is usually black!
