Just took out my fluorescent light tubes and direct wired in LED strip lights in kitchen and reading light in bed room.NOW my radio has static when lights are on.

More than likely the regulators in the LED lights are radiating noise, likely starting right at each LED strip. I haven't tried to listen to the radio since I made the same modification, so I may have the problem too. Turn on the radio and then one light at a time to see if they all do it or just a few. Then unplug the antenna cable from the radio to ensure that the noise is coming in over the antenna. If not, a filter in the radio power leads might help.

Assuming the noise is being radiated to the radio antenna, the first thing I would try is wiring a .01 uF capacitor across the power leads right at the circuit board. If that doesn't work, try grounding the minus lead of each strip to the interior skin with a small sheet metal screw.

Noise problems are hard.

Were the LED strips CHEAP. If so that's the problem. CHEAP ELECTRONICS create noise.

If it's an older radio try a 12v inline noise filter on the power inlet to the radio. Especially if the noise is there on cd function as well.

I have this problem when my water heater is running in my SOB. High pitch noticible whine through the stereo. It's a pos rv oem stereo center. Don't care enough to fix it in the thing though. The radio I put in my AS rocks out, keeps me motivated while working.
