Falling Light Covers

The plastic light covers in the head, a 07 Safari FB SE, will not stay attached. They fall off for no apparent reason, sometimes on my head when I am using the head.

Anybody have this problem and how did you fix it?

Yup. Same problem. And it only really happens in the bathroom,
I suspect, because they are attached to the curved ceiling. I think that might torque them- it doesn't happen with the same lights mounted under cabinets on a flat surface.

The only fix for this is to have them replaced - if you're still under warranty Airstream will do it - they did mine. The lights were put on too tight and the frames warped. I tried loosening mine but even that didn't help. Twice in the middle of the night I had lenses fall out and into the sink when I was asleep. That'll get your attention in a hurry!

To support that, shortly after delivery I had both bath fixtures replaced owing to the falling lenses -- with same results. Those opaque lenses are just too flimsy!

In all, there are five of these fixtures in my coach. Only one retains the lenses solidly (over galley sink). True, we often find lenses on the bath floor/sink, but we also find the others working their way out. I wonder if the newer clear-centered lenses are retained better in these fixtures?

After one year, along with miscellaneous service items, I asked C&G Trailer (Glendale, CA) to look into replacing them all for a different design (I suggested trying the newer clear-centered lenses). I got zero action on this.

I'm open to just replacing these fixtures outright...

If you're out of warranty -

A small spot of (gulp) silicone sealer on the inside of each side of the lens will keep it there; just don't use a lot or you'll have trouble getting the lens off to change bulbs.

This has happen in our 06 19' Bambi a couple of times...only in the bathroom...I agree with Wayne&Sam that it's because it is a flat fixture mounted on a curved surface...it has not been a huge problem...has only happened a couple of times during a tow...

Geez, I guess I'm lucky. The one over the dinnette and in the bathroom and the one in the storage compartment all like to fall off. I'm so used to it that I don't really notice it anymore.

We had the same problem and decided to stop fighting with a light fixture that just plain sucks. I went to Campimg World and found a Euro Style, 12 volt fixtures about the same size and simply replaced the crap ones in our AS. The new ones are a similar style, but better looking and better construction, and cost about $10 each. Took about 10 minutes each to install. The bonus is they project light better without increasing power consumption. I will try to dig up the brand and product number and post for those who may want to try this solution.

Maybe I'll replace them with an LED fixture - if there is such a thing (as opposed to LED replacement bulbs).

And of course we just went out of warranty. What's even weirder is that it didn't start until after we replaced one of the two fixtures in the can (the one farthest to the rear). The push switch disintegrated on that one and the dealer sent us a replacement that I installed. Our final warranty item. I wondered if I torqued the screws too much (or too little...). Anyway I was thinking of using double sided Velcro. I'll try loosening the screws again.

I was thinking that a dap of hot glue might do the same trick as the silicon, but without the smell and the mess.

We had those lights replaced under warranty on our 07, 27' SE. New lights work great so far.

Had mine replaced under warranty and it was much better. One side came loose once in a while, but didn't fall off. Then the switch went bad in that light and I had it replaced again. Now both covers fall off!
