Exterior Light Photo for 50's Airstream

I am purchasing an earily 1950's linner, I think it's a 1953 or 1954. The outside light right above the door and off to the side a bit does not look original(Porch light). Since the trailer only has 110 volt the light is also110v. The light switch on the inside looks to be a very old togle switch and looks original. Does anyone out there have a photo of what an earily 1950's external light fixture looks like out there? Better yet, does anyone know if a light outside the door was even offered as an options? I have a 30' linner?

Lookinghard,

Kevin Allen has an outside light fixture on one of his trailers. Perhaps he will chime in.

has a pic of your trailer and you can see the door. Look around and see whether it looks familiar.

I have reviewed the site and can't seem to find a clear picture of a light outside the door. Great site, just can't find a good photo to illistrate what I am looking for.

I will keep Lookinghard!

I managed to see it

In the first pic that pops up for the 1954 liner. You might be able to save the pic to your computer and use your photo program to blow the area up.

If you mean the 54 Liner in the trees, it is mine. Although there is an outlet near the front door, there is no light fixture.

My 54 Cruiser has that fixture with the odd looking toggle inside. I don't plan on reusing it if you think you might want it.

Here's the picture

Here is what the fixture looks like. Inside there is a small toggle with a plate.

Thanks for the offer. To be quit honist, I am going to get the trailer next week. Once I have the trailer and remove the old (Home Depot looking fixture) I will then be able to tell if they modified the hole any to install the current fixture?

Just wondering, if you are not going to use your old fixture, are you going to replace it with a new one? If so what kind?

Kevin

I'm going to go with the round recessed type that was used in later years up to the present. Airstream Dreams has them for a good price and they are 12 volt and will take a yellow bulb. I put one on my Caravel and it really lights things up.

I don't think that the optional porch/patio light on my coach became an option until the mid-to-late 1950s at the earliest. About the earliest that I have heard of this fixture being utilized was 1957. In recent days, I have learned that this was an accessory offered through the Wally Byam Stores via the annual catalog during much of the 1960s. The attached photo is of the installation on my '64 Overlander (it has been with the coach since it was new).
