The housing? you mean the bulb socket? or the cover? On my trailer there is nothing else under the cover, just the lense, a bulb in a socket, wrapped in tape, wires running into the AS body. MPJ

PS thanks Chris

John yes I meant the socket. It sounds like the original one failed and the PO did a botched up repair by not attaching the socket to the trailer. If you are going to replace it why not install one of the LED lights there instead. There is a member here that has a business selling them. They fit right in and are much brighter and will last forever too.

I have a vintage trailer and had just a small hole for wires to go though but I used a small marine masthead light I got from a marine store. It's small and fits the look I wanted. It has a 135 degree angle that shines down the side with a white 12 volt bulb. Sorry for the poor photo.

Does this look familiar....anyone who has worked on the lights will recognize it. The lights the same...application here different.

Well last night I was working on the TW, she got some new light covers on the inside. When I plugged the trailer in to see the lights work, low and behold the over the door light was on! because the socket it not attached it was not aimed right, or bright, but it was on!! Then I had a break, came back out and when I hit the switch, no-worky again. Well at least I know the wiring is hooked up, hopefully a socket and bulb change will fix it, still considering LED as well. MPJ
