Exhaust Hood Light

Friends: The light in our exhaust hood is so faint that it's comical. But I can see that a very bright incandescent light would melt the plastic diffuser, as they do elsewhere. So what are your recommendations for a good hood light bulb? Best wishes, John

We just replaced ours with a t-10 Socket LED bright white from Seems brighter to me but that may just be because it's bright white rather than warm white.

You have two choices for more light and little heat: a 12v CFL or LED lighting. Both options may require you to cut wires to replace the socket, but that is not at all difficult.

i just dealt with this issue in june while in j/c...

one could REwire a series of ledz for more light...

OR a series of the current incandescent bulbs for more light AND more heat...

and more JUICE USE.

my solution was to BUY A NEW HOOD like the ones used in the internationals...

this 'euro style hood' has 2 BRIGHT, HOT halogen bulbs.

i replace the halogens with BRIGHT, cooler LEDz.

totally solved the light/heat hood issue.

(otoh i can NOW see the food cooking... )

2 bonuses to this approach:

1. the fan in the euro style hood is MUCH stronger (it's a horizontal squirrel cage fan)
2. the hood normally sells for ~200 bucks, but they had a 'scratchndent' unit purchased for 1/6th the new price...

the a/s store had MORE THAN ONE of these, so u might call the gals at the desk and inquire.

back to your hood, ADD MORE LIGHTS or get used to cooking in the dark.

all of the true things that i am about to tell you are shameless lies. l.b.j.

we are here on earth to fart around. don't let anybody tell you any different. k.v.

Our LED lights in the stove hood are plenty bright for us and do not require cutting any wires. See more about them here... and our other interior LED lights here.
