If the lenses(?) were colored orange to mitigate the blue tint of the LED's or else they installed the warmer LEds to begin with that would be so much better. makes you wonder who thought that OR ambience would be desirable?

Thanks for the solutions. can't wait to try!

KellogKid could you show a picture of your film covered lens? Mine are oblong domes and I'm wondering if the film will fit in smoothly. Wondering if your are the same.

I used these gels... they were easy to install and quite effective.

To be honest though I think it's a little too warm now. I think I will be looking for a lighter gel to try out--or maybe just pull the gels from every other light.

I bought gels from https://www.pnta.com/ because they had Lee Zircon gels

LEE Zircon - Longer life filters for LED

I got a 2x2 sheet of 806 and 807 so I could decide which one I liked the best. I just put them in, so I really haven't had any time using them, but so far, so good.

This is an easy and worthwhile mod.

I kept the icy blue lights in the kitchen (makes it feel sleek) and in the bathroom (so that when you visit it at night, it sorta feels like you're being abducted by aliens).

I have the filter material in hand. Can someone tell me how to go about removing the lights from the ceiling to put the filter in?

Hey Brian, I used a jewelers screwdriver to get the lens started and worked the lamp cover off with the bigger screwdriver - it's the inner circle of the light. I also started with the most inconspicuous light to practice on. To re-attach, I lined up open spots on the lens with the lamp attachment screws and pushed them back in.

While I was at it, I did the reading lights (the cover is a slight turn and pull) and I replaced the halogens in the stove hood with leds.

Have you had a chance to determine which color you prefer?

I like the 807 better. If you want to make it warmer, just add a second layer. The 806 is a little too warm and you can't lighten them up.

Just ordered the Lee film. What a great solution to an annoying problem.

Thanks for the tips on removing the lenses. I cut the material with a Fiskars circle cutter. It worked great.

The film that I used was from B&H. It is their stock number GA1543S. It really makes a difference.

LOL... I raided my wife's craft tools as well and found a circle cutter that was sized perfectly. Pretty sure I'm gonna catch her using my tablesaw for something in retaliation.

Brian,
Did you use one or two layers to make the big difference?

Dan

This makes a big difference. I finally got around to installing the gels this weekend. I took the attached photo in the middle of work to show the difference. Honestly I'd be OK with the result being a LITTLE cooler, and the transmissivity is a bit low so the lights are a bit less bright than before, but the overall result is WAY more pleasing than the surgical-suite color of the unfiltered LEDs.

Here the far right light and the reading lamp at the are still the original color temp. I left the front reading lamps unfiltered for now, and filtered the ones by the beds. I haven't decided yet whether I'll filter the light over the sink, I may filter just the low side of it so when both sides are on I get brighter/whiter light for cleaning things at the sink.

I used Rosco Cinegel 3407.
