Dump Valve Lighting

Has anyone replaced the small light above the dump valves, just behind the wheel well on my '88 Excella, with LED lighting? I am replacing that section of the wrap that holds the light and would like to install something newer (and that works). I have been looking at Super Bright LEDs list of possible options ... anyone use these?

You have a light for your dump valve? I have to get a newer trailer!

having totally drained the coach batteries a time or 2 in years past by leaving the the dump valve light on...

i now NEVER use it.

like me it's not very bright anyway.

the issue with an led replacement is finding one BRIGHTER than the current bulb.

as in 1 watt or more and non directional...

you'll have to buy and try i'm afraid.

i find it easier to just use an led flashlight or 'personal head light'

or not do the dump thing in the dark...

i SO don't wanna step in it.

cheers

I like 2 air's solution, I have also seen gloves with led lights on them. Just aim your fist at whatever you want to look at. Hands-free, and it doesn't have the geeky-coal-miner look.
Also, Janet, our '74 has dump-valve lights. Maybe you should get an unpainted Argosy.

I have left our dump light on once or twice during the dark early evenings of early winter while camping but we were always on shore power. I too have made changes to the way I do things; no more light and only dump when there is enough natural light to see what I am doing. This way I advoid having any accidents!

Our dump light and switch is broken on our Safari - it's item the dealer is fixing. I'd prefer a high intensity incandesent bulb that would illuminate the whole area - plus it would be obvious if it was left on by accident. IMO LED's are great for being seen, but are lousy for illuminating.

I have converted all exterior lights on my Safari to LEDs. The only one I have not changed has been the dump light.

Using a fuse to light up all the exterior lights (minus flood light and step light), I guess that with all the LEDs on, I am using maybe the equiv of one standard light bulb, if that.

Before going LED, putting the fuse into the umbillical trailer hitch wiring, I'd get a fair spark, cross a 10a fuse into the plug. Since going LED, I have gone as low as a 5a fuse and may even try lower amp fuses.

If I ever use the dump light, I will for sure change it to an LED type as well.

Not cheap for sure, but far less than it use to be and in a year or two, maybe even less than it costs now.

Like 2Air, I don't even connect the sewer hose when we arrive after dark. I just wait 'till next morning and make the connection then and dump during the day light hours.

I thought those lights were required, so the campground police could check your drain valves late at night.

We don't want anybody watering the grass by accident.

Dump the Dump Light?

Thanks 2Air for the idea, but I think I will pass on the "headlamp"

ArtZilla, it is still awesome to see your trailer "lit up". That must be the reactor behind the fridge vent!

Great suggestions all. I am going to find an LED light that I like and try it out on the dump valve (do they make brown LEDs???)
