Dump Light

I discovered there is a switched light by my dump valve on my newly acquired 2008 Classic 25FB. I pushed the button and no light. So I unscrewed the fixure and removed the light. Got a 12v tester but got weird results. I then removed the small push button also and pulled all the wires out of the light fixture hole up to where the light switch and fixture are conectted to the two mail 12v line. I get 13.6v at the crimped leads but at the fixture less volts. The bulb looks to be OK. I'm thinking the switch is bad. Where can I find the the switch and the fixture if I need to replace them. I'm assuming the light isn't that functional but I'd still like it to be working.

The dump light is notoriously flakey.

You can get stock replacements from any Airstream dealer.

If you're looking to upgrade to something more reliable, try the marine places. I use Jamestown Distributors for that sort of stuff.

I need to replace the switch on mine it too is flakey.

You may find you never need it. It's not often you are likely to dump in the dark.

Agreed, not many reasons or occasions to dump after sundown LEGALLY!

I found our light was handy for night arrival connection effort. Also, enough light to unhook if leaving at night from dark location. It was useful on our last trip 2 weeks ago.

Hi, I replaced my sewer light switch with a heavy duty toggle switch. I later installed a red safety cover over the switch.

Finally got around to fixing my dump light. I replaced the switch and purchased a new bulb from an auto parts store. I chose the highest wattage bulb in that size.

I decided to go with the same switch. They are cheap so I bought a couple with extra boots. Shipping charge wasn't much.

I installed a rather robust rotary switch on mine. Got it at the hardware store. It has held up so far.

There are so many things that can go wrong on with "built-ins" on an Airstream (or any other RV for that matter) that I would not sweat this one for too long. With respect to a strategy to handle a defective "dump light" for the rare occasion that it might be needed: a flashlight!

I know it sounds crazy to worry about it but my Airstream is my "silver mistress" and she wanted it fixed

Channing, good idea about the "headlight!" I was actually thinking of clutching the flashlight in my teeth or enlisting the spouse to hold it, but your solution is much better!!

When our AS was new in 2001, I did a thorough inspection of everything and found the dump light did not work. It turned out to be a bulb with a broken filament as delivered new from the factory. A new bulb solved the problem. In the last 13+ years, I have never had a reason to actually use the dump light. However, sometimes when I'm down there pulling the valve handles to empty the holding tanks I turn on the light and cup my hand around the bulb just to make sure it still works. It does. But, it doesn't put out much light. I'd probably use my ball cap with the built-in LED lights in the visor if I was really in a situation where I had to empty the tanks in the dark.

That switch was made by Bargman and is No Longer available from Bargman.
There are still some around. The part number is 74-32-041 AKA SKU562

I have used mine, albeit maybe 3 times in 4 years. I also use a headlamp for all my nighttime setup activities. I do find the dump light helpful when needed.

Our 2009 FC 25 FB has the sewer light. I didn't know I had one until reading this thread and going out and checking the trailer.

As the light isn't conspicuous, I took a photo for my own edification.

The push button switch that operates the sewer light is the little knobby thing to the right and above the light.
