Ceiling light replacement

Wife wants certain light fixtures to replace the original ceiling lights front and rear. All I can find is 120v light fixtures. Can I put a 12volt LED bulb in this fixture and if so, how do I wire it up? The front light has a wall switch and one wire sticking down from the ceiling, the rear light was switched at the light with two wires sticking down from the ceiling, one hot and a ground. Thanks for the help. (1972 Argosy 22)

Hello Andersojd (1972 Argosy 22),

The wiring will not be your problem.
120v typically has 3 wires Black (120v hot), white (neutral), and green (ground).
On your trailer Black should be (12v hot), white should be (ground).
Meter yours to make sure.
On a 120v fixture conversion, the black will become the (12v hot), the white will become the (ground), the green will become a spare as it is not needed on a 12v system
That being said, your issue is, now you have to get 12v lights for the fixture, or change the sockets to accommodate a 12v light or LED. Doable, but not so easy. It may require rewiring the entire fixture.

In my opinion it would be easier to search for actual 12v light fixture options on line. Like a marine supply store or something like rvupgrades.com, etc, etc.
Maybe not so easy to convince the wife, lol.
I hope this helps. Best of luck.

LED Bulb Replacement Ceiling Lights

The bedroom ceiling lights appear to have burnt out. I ordered replacements that have 2 prongs that should plug in. However, I discovered my 2016 Flying Cloud bulbs are soldered in place. The Airstream dealer states the bulbs cannot be replaced, I need to order the entire fixture for $48. It seems a poor design to replace the entire assembly every time a bulb goes bad. Is there a more economical solution? Thanks.
