Caravel cone light

Greetings from WI!

Need help trouble shooting a '67 cone light. I'm trying to insert the ball mechanism into the tube. This enables the light to swivel/twist in the direction needed to read at night. Any ideas? Thanks for your time!

I took my lights compleatly apart, repainted them and reassembled. The ball on mine would not stay in the socket. I ended up placing the ball in the socket and compress it with my vise. I them used vice grips to close up the end of the socket and keep the ball in. I hope this makes sense. I have one more to do so I will try taking some photos and post them if you need.

TDOW, The "ball" is soft cast metal and wears down rapidly. The tube is soft aluminum and stretches easily. Basically a very poor design to start with. Alumanutz' solution is about as good as you can do short of finding a position for the light you like and epoxying it in permanently. Getting the wire back inside and replacing the socket is another joy with these lights. Darol

cone light

Thanks you guys for your response. I'll give the "squeeze" method a try! Last time we used it, the light dropped down, hanging by its wires and even threw sparks! With all our humidity, I don't really need an electrical perm. Ha!
