To each his own. To me optimal camping is dark camping, and all the strung lights, spot lights, and other lights are why I like to boondock.
We recently camped in Seminole Canyon State Park in the desert of West Texas. We expected darkness and a canopy of stars. What we got was huge murcury lights around the bath house and a trailer across from us with spot lights and strung lights on all night long.
You ain't gonna see no stars when your area is lit up like a Christmas tree, and the only thing worse than those damned strung lights are spot and murcury lights.
Next time we drove Texas 90 going to California we found a dirt road and parked along a ranch fence with bright stars clear to the horizon. Now that was camping, and the only guest we had was a game warden checking to see if we needed help.

Matt, I have to agree with you about trying to 'camp' where the place is lit up like a baseball stadium!

Our extended family likes to sit outside in the evening to see how many satellites we can spot - it's a lights-out activity, for sure!

Our blue lights are on the 'subtle' side, and they come with a 'switch' that stays in the OFF position when it's not appropriate to our current setting...

When we're with a group that's 'well lit' we like to join in the fun of the moment - but that OFF switch still comes into play when it's time to retire...

After repairing my 12v charge line and putting in a new 12v circuit breaker last weekend, I made a little jumper for the pigtail to light up my running lights while parked. Works great!!!

Now I just have to find out where the backup lights short circuit is located?

Hi Ctdair,

Can you help..I am trying to install my undercarriage lights, but not sure where to wire them to. I have a on/off switch to install as well, where would you wire the main lines to pull energy from to be safe. Not sure how much power they will draw..see pics.

Inline fuse protected the lighting unit and I hooked straight into 12v at the battery lugs in back of couch. On Going from memory on this part as trailer is at P&S right now having a dent repaired.On Off switch was a smaller rocker and I mounted right on top of the cabinet that houses the ZipDee chairs right inside the door.Control unit mounted inside the storage under the arm rest section of the front lounge. All wiring between the lights and the control unit was put in split corrugated plastic wire loom and secured with plastic loop clamps and zip screws. I have the wires entering the coach thru the same hole the umbilical cord does. Hope this helps.

Here are a few pictures of my new awning lights. I think they're unrefined, but delightfully tacky!

I'm sorry the pictures aren't very good; my cell phone doesn't like taking low light photos.

P.S. I know the trailer lights aren't Airstreams, but I think they capture their spirit!
