Does anyone know where I can get my hands on a reproduction or good used Bargman 99 lamp base? I really don't want to go the route of the paint can lid.

Out of production for many many years. The paint can is your best bet unless you just luck up on some used in ok condition. Try the for sale section here and www.airstream.net (thats the VAC site)
