Bargman '86...

My '64 Bambi II has what looks to be original Bargman 86 tailights rather than 99s. I thought maybe a PO had changed them, but when I removed the backing plate there was only the 4 mounting holes on the trailer, where as the 99s have only 3 mounting holes in different locations. All the photos of other '64 Bambi IIs that I have seen always have the 99 wedding cakes.

Does anybody have some insight that they can provide?
Thanks,

Mark

Looks like the same pattern as the Autolites on my 1963, same backing plate as well.

I read that some times during a production run,the factory would substitute out of stock parts with ones that were available. Do you think that this might be the case?

Hello S C Streamer ,
Those look original an real cool I might add .Clean it all up and reinstall them.
A unique feature you will have there.Meguires plastic cleaner and the plastic
polish are great for most plastics ,can brighten them up if needed. One other thought for our lenses ,they do have transparent red paint at hobby shops
that when applied /sprayed on the inside of the lense can give a new red
appearence even when lighted .

Hey Mark ,
Many different auto parts stores ,carquest ,pepboys ,auto detail shops etc,
that carry Meguires waxes and polishes should have the plastic cleaner and the polish .Call a few ,ask if they handle Meguires products .One oval shaped bottle is white and the matching bottle is grey/blue ,just in case you need to tell the clerk some detail to identify it .Should be easy to find .I get mine at carquest auto parts store .Works great on most plastics ,especially say, jeep
soft top windows etc.

Meguiar's Plastic Polish...

Hi Scott,

I found the Meguiar's , been sitting here watching the All-Star game and polishing tail light lenses. This stuff is GREAT! Makes my 42 year old lens look like new.

All I can say is WOW ,those look brand new .I find that doing the r&r watching
the tube is a good way to really restore those types of things. by the time the tv time is over you realize you have done an excellent job.I seem to do
a more complete job like you did there ,I polish my aluminum coffee pot
from the 60s, a 10 cup wear ever brand ,non electric ,makes some darn good
coffee I wiil say. Some other tid bits also ,any way ,your lenses ,I like em.

Bargman No.86

Sorry to resurrect this old thread, but I wanted to add that the Bargman No.86 is the same hole pattern as an Autolamp 575. That isn't particularly helpful because they are obsolete. However, they use the same mounting hole pattern as modern school bus taillights. So if you have those old bases but not the lenses, you could use the bus lenses as a temporary (but somewhat odd looking) fix.

You will definitely find this style of 4-hole 7" lens as original on a small number of Airstreams. The much more common version was the 6.5" Bargman No.99. Lenses are available for the Bargman No.99 and baseplates are expected to be available soon.

If anyone is looking for these Bargman 86 get ahold of me

I just found 4 (one is cracked) while looking for parts for my GT. I haven't cleaned them up at all sorry. Just got them home along with some locks, cool lights and side markers... was doing my homework and found this thread.
