64 Globetrotter Patio Light Problem

The patio light on my 1964 Globetrotter doesn't work correctly. I'm using an 1141 bulb in it (which works but I don't think it's the correct bulb as the nubs that hold it in don't correctly line up with the fitting) and the bulb is good. I tested the bulb on an interior light fixture and all is well.

The strange thing is that I believe I'm getting power to the light properly. When I put my meter on it, I'm getting correct voltage. Yet, when I have the bulb in the socket, the filament glows only a very faint orange. So, I know the bulb is getting power. Just not enough to serve as a light.

I've tried several different 1141 bulb's. All with the same result. The faint glow of the filament but not the bright white light expected.

Aside from replacing the entire light which I'm tempted to do, I thought I'd see if anyone had any ideas. I'm stumped.

Thanks,
Scott

Scott.

Your trailer is 40 years old and so is the scare light installation.

It is not unusual to have a bad ground between the metal frame of the scare light and the shell.

With the light turned on, ground the light body to the shell. If that is the cure, then remove the screws and install new ones.

If that is not the cure, then quite well the bulb socket is not properly grounded. Again, you can take a jumper and ground the body of the socket to the shell.
