Not sure about that, but there is a Service Bulletin out there for these trailer brake control modules. Unfortunately it's not a recall, so replacement was on my nickel.

Hiho, There was a warning in the info on the dash. I can't remember exactly what it said but it indicated a fault with the truck for the trailer towing brake system.

When my trailer brake control module failed, I got two malfunction warnings:
1. On the panel, a yellow warning in a box appeared that said "Fault in trailer wiring," and
2. The panel said "trailer disconnected" even though it wasn't.

Also, the trailer brakes were locked. This can, and did, run down the TV battery. I don't know yet if it also damaged the trailer electrical brakes. To be determined...

Ford has a known problem with this brake controller, not limited just to the 2015/2016 model years. I suspect FoMoCo will redesign this, since it monitors parts usage/warranty experience and flags high usage parts as potentially defective. Given that these modules are on back order, this signals high and unexpected usage.
