2015 F159 7 pin connector

My 2012 F150 has a problem in that I occasionally (but too often) get a message saying my trailer is disconnected; it seems however that everything is working. If I push the plug in firmly and tape around the connection, it seems to eliminate the problem. I'm assuming that it just isn't a solid enough connection.?.?

Trailer brake controller

No issues after module was replaced in Missouri. Good thing too, as we crossed the Badlands, the Black Hills, the Bighorns, Yellowstone NP, Glacier NP, the Bitterroots, the Sawtooth, the Unitas and too many to list high passes in Colorado without any brake problems. As far as indicator lights, it just said the trailer was disconnected. After realizing the only solution to locked trailer brakes was disconnecting the 7 pin, I called CoachNet and described the problem. They said the issue was with truck and it was. Sure would like to have a spare if it's not too, expensive to have for the next trip. Will ask a dealer.

I think you have a new trailer brake control module in you future!

I just had mine replaced (2013 F-150), with same symptoms. Total was about $650 installed, from Ford dealer. Look on ebay for one if you're up for a D-I-Y project.

I had the prodigy p3 I had installed in my 2015 f150, has worked well towing 6000mi since May. Only one time had a problem as I was getting ready to set out one day, indicating trailer connection was bad, one of the lights, just had to push the plug in better and the connection cover down fully so the wedge part that keeps the plug in was fully pushed down.

Just wondering if any of these problems might be related to the recall of 2015 2016 F150 with the 3,5 for brake issues?

Not sure about that, but there is a Service Bulletin out there for these trailer brake control modules. Unfortunately it's not a recall, so replacement was on my nickel.

Hiho, There was a warning in the info on the dash. I can't remember exactly what it said but it indicated a fault with the truck for the trailer towing brake system.

When my trailer brake control module failed, I got two malfunction warnings:
1. On the panel, a yellow warning in a box appeared that said "Fault in trailer wiring," and
2. The panel said "trailer disconnected" even though it wasn't.

Also, the trailer brakes were locked. This can, and did, run down the TV battery. I don't know yet if it also damaged the trailer electrical brakes. To be determined...

Ford has a known problem with this brake controller, not limited just to the 2015/2016 model years. I suspect FoMoCo will redesign this, since it monitors parts usage/warranty experience and flags high usage parts as potentially defective. Given that these modules are on back order, this signals high and unexpected usage.
