1954 and 1955 Ohio Marker light Manufacturer and replacement parts

Hello,

I am looking for information on these marker lights?

They are much nicer in comparison to the pathfinder type but they only seemed to survive a few years before Airstream's procurement department replaced them.

I have been rewiring the back plates but to reuse I would need to locate a replacement lens.

I have got some quotes for moulds to be produced, but costs prohibitive for small numbers.

Any information on trying to save these from extinction would be great.

Regards,

Sam.

No luck with VTS, they kindly got back very quickly but have never seen this lens before.

I have had 3 trailers with them, all 1954/1955 ohio models and would like to retain them if possible as a part of the history on the trailers.

Any one out there got any idea of the manufacturer of these?

VTS reply -
Hi Sam,

We do not carry that type of lens and we are unaware of a source for that part. Unfortunately, Steve and I have never even seen them before. I am sorry that we cannot be of more help at this time. Thank you for your continued interest in Vintage Trailer Supply.

mid-50s teardrop markers

My 1956 came with the Bargman teardrop (later reproduced by Pathfinder). The early 50s usually had flat beehives, so you are looking at something that was fairly uncommon and I don't think universal even for your years.

I'm never surprised when I see one-off factory aberrations, but when I see a pattern I have not seen before I am very interested in getting a sense of the frequency of use. I'd like to hear from other mid-50s folks to see if they can add to this discussion.

I think (not 100% sure) the following current mid 50 trailers had/has them -

The 54 20ft DD with P&S has them
The 54 Safari with Franks TW's has/had them, can tell from the footprint left on ali.
Alot of the unrestored Ohio Vintage Photo archive from 54/55 have/had them.
I have 54 Globetrotter that has them instead of the beehive.

They seem to have been supplied with a butyl gasket that ran around the base plate. about 1/4 wide and 1/16 thick that seems to have been effective.

The also appear to be on the 54/55 safari brochure main picture, so would seem that they are probably a factory fitted light.

I have 3 1954 trailers in the yard all needing those same lenses. I recall the Wally Bubble X251 had one left on it but all the rest of the lenses are gone. I can provide VTS with a near perfect sample

Those lenses are available as aircraft wing tip lights.....old airplanes of course. ..some as fuselage formation position lights (but those are white.) The entire aircraft light will work too ...but, they have a bulb extension on the mount side which you would have to work around. I will see if I can find a picture for you all.

good to know

I enjoy seeing all of the little differences on these older trailers, even though it can obviously be difficult to find replacements.

My 54 has the round glass lens, which still look very nice. Hopefully one won't break on me.

Good luck with the replacements

I have a single flat Beehive lens that I found when redoing my previous trailer. Never ended up needing to use it. The fixture was a Yankee fixture that it went in.
