My trailer has been in accessible for a couple months so I wasn't able to measure the vertical hole spacing. It is indeed 2-7/8 (actually 2-29/32 but close enough). The corrosion outline for the long gone original fixture measures 6-3/8 long X 3-1/4 high. If this is the same as what others have, I really want a set.

My trailer is actually a '53 Flying cloud, S/N 7399.

Chris

Frank lent his original lenses for reproduction. We are working on them now and are waiting to hear back from the fabricator whether they can be done. We expect the answer is yes, but there are limitations to the cast reproduction process and we have had a couple projects rejected because they were too difficult. This takes some time because in a hand casting process there is some waste as not all of them pop out of the mould correctly. I'll keep everyone posted through this thread.

Did you ever consider making your own?
We made reproduction one off lenses with a silicone mold kit and activated clear liquid acrylic. Both can be purchased at a hobby craft store . Look on YouTube for instructions.

If I had one I would try it. All I have are the outline marks on the aluminum left by the originals.

I've noticed a branding on the Marker light lens -

C M Hoof Chicago IL.

Attached is a link to their 1950 catalog, there is an early version of this light for 48c -

1950 page for reference

The comet all plastic marker light looks like the predecessor to our missing light. Would be nice to find a 1955 C M Hoof catalog.

Shatter proof, can't crack or break!

First samples of new moulds have arrived. Mould is not quite right and so we're still tweaking. I wish I had a firm timeline, but I don't. But there is hope, as evidenced by this photo!

Steve, incredibly exciting!! Best of luck with mould-tweaking, and thanks for staying on top of this project (I've wondered about the status every now and then).

Seeing them all shiny and new makes me wonder if they were used above front and rear windows on the crown panels, too. They'd look mighty impressive up there, I imagine... I might have to find out.

Wow, those look awesome - will they be able to be used on any trailer with a mounting/assembly or will these be lens only replacements?

I really like my replacement lens (from VTS) for the Bargman license plate light and think this will be a great lens too!

Thanks!

Tina

Great work!

Very nice.
Any plans on a backing plate?
Regards,
Sam.

C M Hoof Backing Plates

Thanks to Frank, we do have backing plates to work from. They're not a complicated design and they are entirely hidden under the lens, but they are stamped so doing a low production run like the originals is not possible. If we do them, we'd need to look at machining or doing a plastic base as a way to achieve a short run.

I can't commit to it right now. I have an enormous list of projects going right now and I have to follow the ones that are most popular first.

I'll look at the plates with a fresh eye to determine whether this is easier than I imagine. I would appreciate advise or guidance from those who have these lights on their trailers.
