I sent a red and a an amber lens along with a base that look just like that, but complete, to Steve @ VintageTrailerSupply. He is going too look into replicating them.

Dick Perkins 55 Holiday trailer has those lights and he would like replacements if made.

That's great news, Frank - glad you've got VTS working on this.

I've sent out a few emails today as well - to companies that reproduce obscure tail light lenses, etc. It'd be great to bring these back to life. My examples are on our (new to us) '54 Safari, and at 6.25"L and 3.25" at the widest part of the teardrop, they're significantly larger than the commonly available variety with the rivet flange around the outside.

I think Steve @ Vintage got a red and an amber lens along with a base. I would be surprised to not see exact copies in the very near future...

thanks -

Thanks to everyone, I'm glad these have been identified and will hopefully not become extinct.

I think their downfall was that the lens was weak and cracked plus Theodore Bargman & Co's marker light was a good bit cheaper to manufacture.

Regards,

Sam.

My '53 Flying cloud originally had some fairly large teardrop shaped marker lights. I wouldn't know if they were the same as those in the photos because all were missing when I bought her. I would be interested in a set if VTS decides to produce them. I purchased some of the teardrops they now sell but I would prefer something a little more vintage looking. I have been searching for some originals for 2 years with no luck.

I think, the way to tell if your trailer had them, is by checking the vertical hole spacing. These ones have a larger 2 7/8 centre compared with 2 7/16 on the bargman/pathfinder.

Attached are a few images to show the difference and scale.

I would like to say a big 'THANK YOU' to Steve Ruth at P&S trailers who has kindly posted out his spare ones to me.

Seems to me the honeycomb and other glass-lensed lights fare much better when you see them on eBay, etc.

I'm it'd be more difficult (read: more expensive) to cast replica lenses in glass... but I sure can't help but wish some of the Bargman tail lights - and clearance lights like the one we're discussing in this thread - could be made of glass rather than plastic which can't hold up to decades of UV abuse.

I've located an Australian guy who repros vintage tail lights, etc. He just responded with a quote of around $23 apiece, so I may move forward with that option if VTS isn't able to get around to these in a reasonable timeframe. They have so much on their plate, it's amazing they're able to take on any new projects.

I wonder if this larger style would've been also used along the crown above the front/rear windows. Anybody see any evidence of that?

Brad, I believe the guy in Australia is the same guy that Steve @ VTS uses.

Wow - small world. Thanks for the heads up, I'll hold off a bit. No sense in doubling up on our efforts, and I'm certainly not interested in stepping on toes, either.

from what I understand the original ones I sent to Steve are heading to the Southern Hemisphere.

Wonderful! I don't care how I get 'em - I just want 'em.
