Well, now that I think about it - I should add it to the list of "check and fix" when we bring it into the dealer for servicing. It's still under warranty.

Seemed like a minor thing - but makes sense to get it checked.

Thanks!

Ok, we are getting somewhere.

As a last resort to get the bowl to hold water I once again tried to scrape the groove with my custom groove scraper. Still didn't work. I then filled the bowl with warm water and dish washing soap. Let it sit for 10 minutes as it leaked through. Then took one of those round toilet bowl cleaning brushes, opened the slider gate and forced the bowl brush into the passage. Then rotated the bowl brush back and forth.

A small amount of debris came out on the brush and I wasn't to enthusiastic that I solved the problem but to my surprise it did!

We went away for the weekend and it held water perfectly.

Now the last issue is water leaking into the bowl whenever the pump is left on. I assume there is a water off/on valve that is leaking.
If I remove the toilet assembly will I be able to service or replace this valve?

thnxs

The water control valve can be replaced.

However, since the toilet is 34 years old, you should replace the entire flushing mechanism. It's everything except the bowl and seat.

That should let your toilet live another 34 years.

Thnxs again Andy for your good advice. I will take a drive up to Can Am and see if I can get the assembly.

I replaced my whole toilet.

After taking the trouble to remove the toilet, I did not want to
put the same old plastic toilet back in. I opted for a brandy new low profile
porcelin toilet from Sealand. It was under $200. The plastic bowls get scatches in them after years of scrubbing. The scratches seem to grow bacteria real well. I feel safe now scrubbing the bowl without concerns about scratching it.

Today I replaced the water shutoff in the old Aqua Magic. No problem. But...... before I go to install the toilet back in the trailer I poured some water in the bowl just to be sure it had no leaks. Dang! The bowl was holding water before I took it out. Now it leaks badly. What the heck happened?

Ours does the same thing because the little slide part doesnt close tightly on its own. I take my foot and slightly lift up on the pedal after each flush and the water stays. May not be your problem, but worth a try.

Thanx John. When the slider assembly was out of the toilet I saw that the slider had an 1/8" gap so it wasn't closed all the way. Don't know why but it did hold water before??

Update....

I have never backed away from a challenge (get the old A Magic working properly) but I have caved into the pressures of the relentless "dw".

This morning I ordered a brand new Sealand Traveller Lite. Price was 219 Canadian plus 14% taxes.

Maybe with a little I can get her to pay half...lol

I gotta dumb question Andy, if you read this, how can I convert my 2004 Safari's single pedal to the older dual pedal. I loved the seperate bowl fill pedal because more times than not, I hold the single pedal too far and it drains out into the tank. Is there a kit or a parts list you know of that I can swap this out without severely modifying the head? Our 2003 19' Bambi had the dual pedal, but our 2004 25' Safari SS has the single.

May sound too simplistic, but our '75 Argosy had the same problem with water draining from the bowl. Hubby (John) removed the toilet and found previous owners/guests had flushed non-compliant objects down the toilet. These became lodged and prevented the flapper from closing properly. Once cleaned and re-installed...original toilet works perfectly and did not cost a cent.

A little petroleum jelly on the ol' flapper can't hurt either!

That and let a little valve lube sit in the bowl once/twice a season...

Thetford makes a tool for just such a job(cleaning the slot for the slide closure). It looks like a bent screw driver and really works. Sure fix for leaking bowl. Call Thetford to order. Paper stuck in slot. To prevent, make sure no paper left in bottom of bowl when going into prolonged storage. Also add water to bowl so it won't dry out.

our 74 thetford still works!

Amazingly enough, with continued use, and cleaning, our original thetford is now retaining water in the bowl, with no special fixing!! Why replace??? These originals are amazing??

woohoo.....Just spent the best $6.00 buying one of those extendo mirrors to see in small places. What I found was a nasty little concrete like wad of TP that took some good elbow grease to get out of the flange slot. I tried and tried previously but couldn't shake anything loose and thought there was nothing there just faulty mechanics. I was all set to order the whole flange kit replacement but thought I'd give it another go. I bent a set of tweazers to get in there. A crappy job but somebody had to do it. Made my day!!!

That's when you feel good about that box of disposable latex gloves you bought.
