Water pooling in bath sink

Our bathroom sink will not drain all the way as the stopper mechanism sits up too high in the bottom. This leaves about 1/8" of water to dry and leave rings on the stainless surface. The dealer said they fixed it but didn't. It almost looks like I should pull the bottom of the bowl to extend it down a bit. Anybody have any ideas?

Our bathroom sink seems to drain fairly well. I don't have my Safari here but I know the bottom of the sink is flat for a bit. I'll take a look within a couple days.

Was the seal installed on the wrong side of the sink, top instead of the bottom of the sink, look at the drain tailpiece and see it has a rubber washer under the lip on the topside of the sink making the drain sit proud. If it dose remove and put on the bottom use some plumbers putty when you reassemble.

If the drain itself is sitting up too high (which your description sounds like), it is possible that the rubber washer which is normally below the sink metal is mounted above it. A standard way for installing a sink drain is, from top to bottom, drain, plumbers' putty, sink, rubber washer, and nut to tighten everything up. The drain is usually a T-shaped tube that goes through the hole in the bottom of the sink and is threaded for the nut which is tightened up from under the sink. The plumbers' putty and the rubber washer make the joint water-tight.

What I do not know is what the actual sink-drain combination in your Safari is!

Mine too. It look like a poor shape to the sink itself. I've also thought of disconnecting the drain fittings and giving it a whomp with a rubber mallet. Why don't you try it first and let me know how it goes

Mine too. Assembled correctly, just a bad shape at the drain.

Mine in the '05 Safari is the same way. I took the drain out and reseated it; no change. Our son has on '06 Bambi; same thing. It's just a bad design.

I agree the bottom of the sink is a bit flat. I noted that if I put one finger on the edge of the open drain, the water's surface tension would break and it would drain farther down. Having made that discovery I took a fine triangular file and gently filed three spots in the side of the drain... not even 1/16" deep. Voila! The water follows the channels.

I also use "Cameo" stainless cleanser (found at WalMart) in the sinks about 3-4 times a month to keep them shiny. AND when I dust with Pledge, I use it on the sinks too which further breaks the surface tension of the water.

Add us to the list of folks with the sink malady....it leaves an ugly stain. I would call it a sink without enough sink...just saying

Ours, too...we have gotten in the habit of wiping it out when we use the sink...it's annoying, but it doesn't hurt anything either... At least the sink's always nice and shiny!

I seem to recall somebody recently who used a stainless steel salad bowl for the bathroom sink in their vintage. That would work!

We had resorted to wiping out the sink with every use but I found that the stopper was sitting up "proud" so I will fix that and also cut the grooves to improve the situation more. All in all it just was a bad design that I can live with. On a SOB I might not be so forgiving.
