Water Everywhere!

Replumbed my 71 overlander and ran into a snag. Water is passing through my shoer faucet and feeding the hot water line. I replaced the cartridge thinking it would help, but it did nothing. Am I missing something?

If it is a single handle faucet,the handle must be pushed all the way to the right (cold),or it will cross over. Dave

It is a single lever. The knob has no stop when you turn it. should I have a check valve somewhere? It's backfeeding full pressure cold to the hotwater tank.

Put a one way valve/backflow valve in the hot water line that feeds the shower.

The faucet should only allow bypass when it is in the open position. If the hot water tank is empty or has some other way for relieving pressure in the line , and if you have the shower heads' valve is closed, that flow is normal untill the tank gets full.

While the water is on and flowing push the shower knob in. If pushing in does not work, turn the knob slowly till you hear the flow stop. I think one of these methods should cut the flow off completely.

I think something is wrong if the knob does not have a stop! What brand of faucet is it?

i seem to remember reading something about this happening if the cartridge is installed backwards. i'll try to find the thread.

not the post i remember but i think if the valve is installed 180 degrees off you'll get the problem you have mentioned.

Yes there is an up and down on the valves. There should be a little notch on one side of where you connect the handle. This notch goes down (most of the time) If it is in upside down water will pass through.

Thanks for the help everyone. I replaced the cartridge in the faucet with a Moen 1200(same as orig). I noticed the problem of the backfeeding only because I left the "hot water out "line off the tank to test for cold water leaks. What I observed was a majestic fountain of cold water rising from the open hw line.

As far as the orientation of the cartridge in the housing-I installed it up,down,sideways, ect with no change. I'll keep messing with it.
