Trapless Shower Drain

Am I crazy? Because I am very tall, I'm thinking of draining my shower directly into my grey tank using a trapless drain. Can anyone think why this could not work?

A trapless drain does not allow gasses to escape.

Over time, you will have to replace the drain once the SMELL starts entering your shower. They do not last forever.

Could you post a link or spec sheet for that drain? Never heard of one, but maybe it would work OK. What prevents the gases from the grey tank coming back up into the shower?

Do you have to manually engage the rubber seal each time you leave the shower? If it does not seal well, and the grey tank is really full, won't the contents slosh out/up into the shower while the trailer is being towed?

Seems like an interesting product. I watched the video as well as looking at several of the PDF files showing dimensions for the installed drain. The dimensions were not entirely conclusive.

Do you really save any vertical space? It appears the "tongue" of the trapless drain will end up submerged in gray water as the tank approaches the full level. Will the drain still work when it's submerged? If it still works when submerged then you may be saving some space. Be sure to double-check all the dimensions before designing this into your system.

I have to think if there is space in the tank, the higher water will find it's way down. Yes, I would purchase the drain and internals prior to committing to the install.

If I were to try using this I would design for the tip of that flapper to be no lower than the top of the tank and not submerged at all, so whether that gains you anything or not you need to calculate.
My thought of keeping it out of the tank is to keep it flushed every use so that hair or any other nasties don't build up and keep it from sealing 100%, I also doubt it does seal 100% so tank slouching on the road could leak thru.

I was sort of thinking the same thing, but then again, who runs their grey tank that full? If you notice the drain slowing, you can always let out some grey water.

I think this will work fine and my bet is that once the tank is full and there is no water flowing into the gray tank, the rubber flap will simply close, eliminating any significant backup.

BTW when we have full hookups I typically leave the bath gray tank valve open.

Might try contacting the manufacturer.
