tool tip for toilet tank cleaning

I don't know if anyone else has had a hard time figuring out how to really clean the black tank.
No, not all the way down there but not the toilet either... that in-between area that can get funky after awhile.
Well, after many attempts with many cleaning implements, I think I found one that actually works!

SIGG, the company that makes aluminum water bottles, has a cleaning brush kit that is awesome. It inclues one long-handled brush that has a small enough head to fit through the toilet hole with curves and bristles in just the right places to get in to the hard-to-reach spots. It also comes with a small bristle brush that may be good for detail cleaning around the rv.

I bought mine at Whole Foods for about $11. A bit pricey, but I have spent more buying other brushes that just do not work for the job and end up getting tossed out. Plus, I full-time so it's worth it. You can probably find this at REI, online at the SIGG website or any other store that sells the brand.

Gee, I sure hope you don't confuse this one with the one you bought to clean your water bottles!

I have always thrown a bag of ice down the toilet, drove around a bit, maybe even to the next campground, and "Wha laa" Pull in and dump the old tank. Ice brakes up the hard stuff and melts to water. Never a glitch.

After it clean and clear I put the cap on the outside a little bleach, let it set, and it cleans the exit tube also. I rinse for a bit, then ready for new chemical.

Sounds like you use the soft version of a chimney sweep... Where do you store it when done, does it fit in the hose tube?

I've used ice too and it definetly works for the tank itself, but I'm referring to the space underneath the exit hole in the toilet bowl and the actual black tank where everything ends up. Does this have a name? I find that even though "matter" just passes by it, it still needs to cleaned- it's just not easily accessible.
The SIGG brush is shorter than a small toilet plunger so I just rinse it off with a bit of flushing, let it soak in some bleach/water, air dry outside and store it under the bathroom sink.

My wife is highly concerned about that "tween" area as well. I kind of see it as being behind closed doors, out of sight, out of mind.

She'll look down in there and say that there's a clump of toilet paper stuck down there. I say it'll go away, but then she starts to look for a bucket to super flush the system.

I'll let her know that there is a super brush out there. I thought that the tank flusher actually sprayed that area though. If you open the toilet valve while the sprayer is going, you can see water dancing down there (so I've been told by the Poop Patrol)

My wife and daughter make up our official "Poop Patrol." It would be a huge mistake to pull those tank handles without involving the 7 year old. She loves the dump procedure. Quite funny actually. I think the movie, RV, has some influence on the dump. I've purchased some clear elbows for the next trip.

I was going to start a new thread with my question but found this discussion in 2008. That in between pipe does get VERY funky and causes the bathroom to smell like an outhouse. I will look for the Sigg brush, but it seems like there should be a way to easily keep that area from getting gunked up with waste. It is fairly simple to clean the black tank, with sprayer (and ice while moving)
Easy to clean the toilet bowl, Now if we can just keep the fixture clean all the way down there won't be any odor. Any other ideas appreciated. My dh thinks he will have to take the toilet out to clean it but that seems extreme!
