Thanks for all y'alls help. I found a NOS part for my toilet on eBay. It never ceases to amaze me the most obscure stuff you can find on eBay. Any ways the part fit just right and my toilet now works perfectly. All for only ~$20. much better than the cost of retrofitting a new ~$150 newer toilet.

Yes, but where and how?! I'd still love to salvage it and I'm going to have to know REALLY soon before they install the new one!
