Toilet donut won't come off

The black tank valve on my 1973 sovreign leaks into grey water tank.
I can see that the valve doesn't go down all the way so I assumed there was something stuck in there.

My plan was to take the toilet off and reach my arms in there and clean it off. Covered of course by a cattle artificila insemination glove which would reach to my shoulder.

Removed the toilet and all the screws holding the donut thngy on but it still wont budge. On the street side of the donut thingy it still seems attached. i reached my gloved hand in there and it seemed like there was maybe a piece of plastic attached.

Any ideas?

Don`t know what a donut thingy is,but if you are talking about the flange,it screws out of the tank adapter.Unless you have added a gray tank,the 73 didn`t come with a gray tank. Dave

Yes the flange. Will try screwing it out thanks a whole bunch.

OK unscrewed it. Sadly my arm is to big to fit in there, perhaps one of my young children will "Volunteer" to help me with their small arms.

On another note it is good I took it apart because there was a wide crack 1/2 way around where the flange attaches to the tank. Fortunately I should be able to fix this with "plastic weld" from Oreilly auto parts. This is not plastic epoxy. different stuff but works incredible on this sort of stuff.

I wouldn't use a generic plastic weld for this. It should be done with the proper adhesive for the plastic you are dealing with. Black pipe fittings are typically ABS, and there is a glue made especially for it. The "wrong" stuff may cause the fitting to become more brittle than it already is.
And I know you don't want to go there again for a repair to the repair.

Removedthe flange and bribed my 10 year old son to stick a garbage bad over his arm and scrape the valve. I can close it now but it still leaks a bit.

I can see the 4 screws on the valve. Does it just pull out vertically? Where do I get a replacement?

Inlandrv, vintage trailer supply or out of door mart. Any one of these should have either the valve or the repair kit. I was told there was no repair kit for mine (stainless cover) but I found one on amazon.com. It dripped - but now - no drip.

Inland will have what you need. The style valves aren't cheap but they should have the exact valve. Thedford made several variations of the dump valve and it will save you a lot to hassle to replace it with the exact replacement.
